Replacing the resonator on the Grant

The resonator usually burns out second after the muffler, if we consider the timing of the replacement of these parts of the exhaust system. And for Grants, this rule will not be an exception, at first the muffler usually changes, leaving 3-5 years, depending on the car's mileage, and then it comes to the resonator, since its metal is also not eternal.

To independently replace this part on a Lada Grant car, you will need the following tool:

• Key for 12 and 13 mm
• Socket heads for 8, 10, 12 and 13 mm
• Ratchet handle
• Vorotok
• Extension
• Hammer
• Chisel
• Flat screwdriver
• Penetrating grease

So, for a start, it is worth doing some preparatory points that will facilitate the repair:

1. Unscrew all mounting bolts and remove the engine protection
2. Apply penetrating grease to all threaded connections

So, when the engine protection no longer interferes, it is necessary to use a chisel several times to try to remove the nuts securing the resonator to the exhaust manifold from the place.

Of course, if the resonator is still being changed relatively fresh, then it is possible that the nuts can be unscrewed with the help of wrenches. But in the vast majority of cases, this is not possible. Nuts stick, rust and tear them off the metal with the help of even a head - it can end sadly, and in 90% of the case the studs break. And this will lead to additional costs of money and time.

All three nuts must be removed with extreme care to keep the studs intact. Then we remove the locking plate.

Then try to separate the de part of the exhaust system in the place that we unrolled. Again, over time, all this sticks and rusts, so it is possible that you will have to use additional funds. For example, you can knock lightly at the joint with a hammer to make it easier for yourself.

After a few, even the smallest, blows, everything is usually disconnected without too many problems.

Now it is worth moving to the back of the car and disconnecting the muffler from the resonator part.

Of course, here we also apply a penetrating lubricant, after which we unscrew everything.

After that, you can install a new one in its original place. As for the price, it can be quite different. For example, the cheapest resonator on a Grant can be bought for 1500 rubles, and a factory one - up to 2700 rubles. Of course, the workmanship of these parts also differs depending on the cost.
