Replacing the cabin filter Opel Astra H

Sometimes the owners of Opel Astra H are faced with the fact that the stove starts to work poorly. In order to determine the reason for this, you do not need to go to a car service. As a rule, problems in the functioning of the climate control arise due to a dirty pollen filter. To verify this, you need to assess the condition of the filter element. And if it is not satisfactory, then the Opel Astra H cabin filter should be replaced with a new one. According to official recommendations, the filter should be changed after every 30-000 kilometers.

It is quite possible for a motorist to replace the cabin filter on his own. Moreover, it does not take much time. In order to remove and replace the Opel Astar H cabin filter, you will need a set of heads and a Phillips screwdriver.

Removing the filter element

The filter element is located on the left side behind the glove compartment, in order to access it, you first need to dismantle the glove compartment. Its fastening consists of four corner screws, we unscrew them with a screwdriver. In addition, there is a lighting inside the glove compartment, which does not allow the drawer to be pulled out, and therefore it is necessary to turn aside the latches on which the plafond is attached. This can be done with a screwdriver or with your fingers. Next, disconnect the plug with the wire from the backlight. After that, you can remove the glove compartment by pulling it towards you. In addition, for greater convenience and full access to the filter cover, it is necessary to remove the decorative panel, which is installed on the air ducts of the front passenger seat. It is located under the glove compartment and secured with two swivel clips.

After removing the glove box using a 5.5-mm head on the filter cover, three self-tapping screws are unscrewed, and two upper and one lower cap fasteners are removed. Removing the cover reveals the dirty end of the filter element. Carefully remove the filter, bending it slightly. Of course, it is inconvenient to take it out, but if you put in a little more effort, everything will go smoothly. Then you just need to remember to wipe off the dust that got from the filter inside the case.

Installing a new filter

Reinstalling the filter is even more inconvenient. The main danger is that the filter can be broken, but if it is in a plastic frame, then this is unlikely. To install, we put our right hand behind the filter and with our fingers push it towards the passenger compartment, at the same time pushing it inside. Having reached the middle, you need to bend it slightly and push it all the way. The main thing after that is not to find out that the side, which the element should be located to the air flow, is confused, otherwise you will have to repeat the procedure for installing it. After that, we put it back and fasten the lid. It is better to make sure that it is hermetically sealed and pressed tightly in order to prevent dust from entering the cabin.

Alternative installation of the filter element:

  • In the shape of the filter, a strip of cardboard is cut out slightly longer in size;
  • A cardboard is inserted in place of the filter;
  • The filter can be easily inserted through it;
  • The cardboard is carefully removed.

The entire process of replacing the cabin filter of an Opel Astra H with a suitable tool takes about 10 minutes.
Alternatively, you can use a carbon filter, its quality is slightly higher than that of the “native” paper element. In addition, it is made in a rigid plastic frame, which makes it possible to install the filter with almost no effort.
