Replacing the ball joint on the Lada Priore
The knock of ball bearings is one of the most frequent sounds that occurs on cars of the Lada Priora family with a sufficiently high mileage, from 50 km and above. Of course, the quality of factory spare parts is quite good, and with careful operation and normal roads, supports can move even more than 000 thousand km, but this is rare. You can replace the ball joints on the Priore yourself without contacting the service station, since this procedure is not particularly difficult.
Of course, to do this repair yourself, you will need a special tool and a puller, and a detailed list of everything you need will be given below:
- key for 17 and 19, caps will be the most convenient
- ratchet handle or crank
- special socket for TORX E12 profile
- hammer and pry bar
- ball joint puller
- jack
The first step is to put the car on the parking brake, and also substitute the wheel chocks under the wheels, if any. Then remove the front wheel by first lifting the front of the machine with a jack:
Next, unscrew the ball finger nut, for which you need a 19 spanner wrench:
Next, we take a puller and use it to press out the support from the lever:
After the ball pin has jumped out of its seat, you can start unscrewing the two fastening bolts on the sides of the part. The photo below shows this in more detail, although one bolt is not visible, but its direction is indicated by an arrow:
Then, in order to get the support, it is necessary to press the lever down with the force of the mount, or substitute a brick under the brake disc and slightly lower the machine with a jack to release the ball:
As a result, the support becomes free for extraction, and nothing else interferes:
Now we take a new support, remove the boot from it and, without regretting, push lubricants there, such as lithol:
We put the boot in place and install the ball in the reverse order of removal. It is worth noting that installation takes a little longer, as you have to try to tighten the bolts and get into the threaded holes.
You will also have to try with a pry bar to guide the lever in the right direction. Although, once at a time it is not necessary, and sometimes the replacement proceeds without any problems. Prices for new supports for Priora range from 250 to 500 rubles apiece, and to a greater extent differ depending on the manufacturer.
