Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

An engine with such candles after a long period of inactivity has a habit of “running away” for some time after starting, and as it warms up, the work stabilizes. The reason for this is the unsatisfactory condition of the valve stem seals. Increases oil consumption. Renault Sandero, which replaces spark plugs in the first minutes of engine operation, has a characteristic blue-white exhaust at the time of warm-up.

The central electrode and its casing are covered with a thick layer of oil mixed with drops of unburned fuel and small particles from the destruction that occurred in this cylinder. The reason for this is the destruction of one of the valves or the rupture of the partition between the piston rings with the ingress of metal particles between the Renault Sandero valves when replacing spark plugs with their seat.

At the same time, the engine “troit” no longer stops, there is a significant loss of power, fuel consumption increases one and a half to two times. The only way out is repair. Install the coil.

I advise you to immediately insert the coil mounting bolt into the eye, and then insert it into the well. Also remember to inspect it for damage before installing the coil. It should not have cracks.

Please note that when tightening new replacement covers on the Renault Sandero, in no case should physical force be used. The cover is first screwed by hand until tight contact with the engine housing. If you have a special torque wrench, the force is Nm.

Check the condition of the spark plugs. The condition of each candle is checked. If there is a white coating or soot, then something is wrong with the fuel mixture.

Therefore, put new plugs or install old ones if it makes no sense to replace them. However, it is better to install each plug in the Renault Sandero connector replacement location. You will need a torque wrench. It is important to consider that the force required for this work is between 25 and 30 Nm. Each spark plug is attached to the cylinder head.

The ignition coils are bolted on. This is the whole process. Nothing special for an experienced car owner. Yes, a person who has never repaired his car in his life will do everything from the first time for a long time.

But after a couple of times it adapts and will continue to do this routine procedure on Renault Sandero, replacing the candles much faster. But when replacing these consumables or any other work with the car, you definitely should not rush. Possible problems What problems usually await the owner of Sandero with candles?

As with many other cars:

Possible problems

What problems usually await the owner of Sandero with candles?

As with many other cars:

  • various damage;
  • electrode deposits;
  • the thread of the hole in the sail is worn out in places;
  • the resulting roll.

Normal wear of these parts is most likely associated with long-term operation. Most likely, spark plugs wear out on average no earlier than the specified service life, simply because the owner of the Renault Sandero is probably a person who uses the car exclusively for domestic purposes.

it's hard to imagine anyone driving the Sandero off-road or on the track. And this car does not pull in any way because of the insignificant volume of the trunk. So most owners are family members for whom a car is just a universal means of transportation, nothing more. But this is not a guarantee that the consumable will not fail up to 30 km, so regular checks are required.

As for the problems that may arise when replacing these consumables with Sandero, it is worth noting that a beginner is likely to make the following mistake - damage to the ignition coil during careless removal. Therefore, you need to do the above with it slowly and carefully.

However, there is another option with a coil - manual removal. This will most likely not work and you will have to resort to a screwdriver due to the fact that the factory setting is usually very tight. However, ideally, the coil should be removed by hand without much effort. This can be almost a guarantee of no harm.

But it is important to know the measure. If the coil does not move, do not attempt to remove it. If exceeded, you can damage the product with your hands. So it remains to be guided by the circumstances.

And one more nuance: some advise marking candles so as not to confuse where it was.

When to change or frequency of replacement

There are clear signs that it's time to replace the spark plugs. Firstly, these are difficulties with starting, and secondly, a noticeable vibration. These two signs are usually found, but even if there is at least one, this is an occasion to check if it is time to change the candles.

In addition, problems with these parts have resulted in increased fuel consumption, reduced power, and erratic engine performance in the Sandero and other vehicles. If all these factors are present, it is definitely time to change the candles.

it is important to consider that the frequency of replacement depends largely on the intensity of use.

Here is what causes accelerated wear of parts:

  • low-quality fuel;
  • the engine runs at high speeds;
  • frequent engine overloads.

As for Renault Sandero, in this case it is necessary to change it on average every thirty thousand kilometers. But since candles can fail faster due to the factors described above, it is worth periodically checking their condition. This operation is recommended at every oil change. The latter is carried out every six thousand kilometers.

So when to change the candles depends on the specific situation. An inactive driver can still expect to have to change after 30 km, although this is still necessary for verification. But for those who prefer a more extravagant style of driving or who simply have to use the car often, it may be necessary to change the spark plugs much earlier.

If there is a suspicion that these Sandero parts are becoming unusable, or it is time for a scheduled inspection, it is important to visually inspect the parts. Here is what is written about the problem:

  • bias;
  • thread damage;
  • oil and soot deposits on the electrodes;
  • damage to the insulator;
  • other damage, nicks or cracks.

If at least one of these signs is found, these consumables should be replaced immediately so as not to be in a difficult situation. It does not matter here whether thirty thousand kilometers have been covered or not, you need to act immediately. It is also important to know what parts to buy.

Replacing spark plugs in a Renault 8-valve engine

Replacing spark plugs on an 8 valve Renault Logan / Sandero engine is not at all a difficult task. Detailed instructions with photos will help to cope with this task.

The manufacturer recommends using the following spark plugs in K7J and K7M engines installed on Renault Logan / Sandero:

  • AIKUEM RFC58LZ2E,
  • SAMPLE RYCLC87,
  • SAGEM RFN58LZ.

According to the rules of maintenance, the replacement of spark plugs is carried out every 15 thousand km.

We carry out work with a cold engine.

And we remove the candle.

When installing a spark plug, it must be filled and screwed in by turning the spark plug wrench or extension by hand, without a wrench, so as not to damage the thread of the spark plug hole in the cylinder head.

If the spark plug is disconnected from the wire, there will be strong resistance to rotation. In this case, it is necessary to completely unscrew the spark plug, and after cleaning the thread, screw it back in. Finally, tighten the spark plug to 25-30 Nm.

Attention! Overtightening the spark plug can strip the threads in the spark plug hole in the cylinder head.

In the same way, we replace the remaining candles. We install only candles recommended by the manufacturer or analogues of other companies.

Spark plugs and engine operation in Renault Sandero

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

I found an interesting article on the Internet. I think it will be interesting to those who do not understand these issues. Especially when changing spark plugs.

Diagnosis of engine operation by the condition of the spark plugs.

Photo #1 shows a spark plug that can be considered excellent when the engine is not running. Light brown rod electrode skirt for minimal fouling and deposits. Complete absence of traces of oil. The owner of this engine can only be envied, but there is the fact that this is an economical fuel consumption and there is no need to add oil in return.

Photo #2 shows a typical example of a spark plug from a more economical engine. The central electrode is covered with a velvety layer of soot. There are several reasons for this: a rich air-fuel mixture (incorrect carburetor adjustment or malfunction of the injectors), a clogged air filter.

In the third photo, however, an example of an excessively depleted gas-air mixture. The color of the electrode varies from light gray to white. There is cause for concern here. Riding too hard and under heavy loads can cause significant overheating of both the spark plug and the combustion chamber, and overheating of the combustion chamber is a direct path to exhaust valve burnout. The skirt of the center electrode of the spark plug is shown in the photo

then. 4 has a characteristic reddish hue, this color can be compared with the color of red brick. This flush is caused by running the engine on fuel containing excessive amounts of metal additives. Prolonged use of such fuel will cause metal deposits to form a conductive layer on the surface of the insulation, through which the current will more easily pass between the electrodes of the spark plug, and the spark plug will stop working.

Photo No. 5. The spark plug has traces of oil, especially in the threaded part. An engine with such candles after a long period of inactivity has the habit of "running away" for some time after starting, and as it warms up, the work stabilizes. The reason for this is the unsatisfactory condition of the valve stem seals. Increases oil consumption. In the first minutes of engine operation, a characteristic blue-white exhaust is emitted during warm-up.

There is no candle in the photo. 6 was removed from an idle cylinder. The central electrode and its casing are covered with a thick layer of oil mixed with drops of unburned fuel and small particles from the destruction that occurred in this cylinder. The reason for this is the destruction of one of the valves or the rupture of the partition between the piston rings with the ingress of metal particles between the valve and its seat. At the same time, the engine “troit” no longer stops, there is a significant loss of power, fuel consumption increases one and a half to two times. The only way out is repair.

Photo No. 7: complete destruction of the central electrode with its ceramic layer. The reason for the failure can be one of the following: running the engine for a long time with detonation, using low-octane fuel, starting too early, and simply a bad spark plug. The symptoms of the engine are the same as in the previous case. The only thing you can hope for is that the rod electrode particles managed to slip into the exhaust system without getting stuck under the exhaust valve; otherwise, cylinder head repair cannot be avoided. But it depends on a person whether he is sinful or not (just kidding). If we talk about this candle, then God took pity on its owner.

Photo #8 is the last one in this review. The spark plug electrode is covered with ash, the color does not play a decisive role, it only indicates the operation of the fuel system. The reason for this accumulation is the combustion of oil due to exhaust or the presence of oil scraper piston rings. The engine has an increased oil consumption, when gas comes out of the exhaust pipe there is a strong bluish smoke, the smell of the exhaust is similar to the smell of a motorcycle. If you want to have less trouble starting your engine, don't just think about spark plugs when the engine refuses to start.

The manufacturer guarantees trouble-free operation of the spark plug on a repairable 30th engine. But you, in turn, do not forget to check the condition of the spark plugs at each oil change, or on average every 10 thousand kilometers. First of all, we are talking about bringing the gap to the required value by removing carbon deposits. A wire brush removes carbon deposits better, sandblasting destroys the ceramics of the central electrode and you risk getting a copy from photo No. 7. I also recommend changing the candles, this is due to the different temperature conditions of the cylinders.

Renault Sandero Stepway - Self-replacement of candles on the K7M engine

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

I settled on the choice of these candles due to the fact that for almost 8 years of using these candles there were no complaints about their work, with timely replacement, of course.

Also, being the owner of the old Stepway, I bought myself a candle key in one of the auto repair shops (I don’t remember the price)

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

fits most head sets, I also have this set for a long time, even with the VAZ2115.

The candle head is not just a head, it has petals inside that help hold the candle in the tool for easy removal and installation.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

Accordingly, from the nozzles and heads included in the kit, we assemble just such a “chandelier”

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

you can continue the replacement procedure itself, but first you need to remove the accumulated sand and dust from the candle wells. With a compressor, this can be done without problems. But in the "field" conditions, when there is no compressed air at hand, you have to use an improvised vehicle. This homemade tool I have is a piece of pipe, securely assembled from leftover work.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

To remove accumulated dust and sand from the candle wells, it is enough to blow sharply into the tube several times, directing it at a slight angle from different sides into the well itself.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

On this dirt is removed, let's move on.

After removing the candle covers, blow out the old candles with a prepared candlestick.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

An inverted sail, like a new sail, holds the key well during installation, which simplifies work and eliminates the possibility of the sail falling off the head.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

I want to draw your attention to one point. When replacing a candle on the fourth cylinder, some difficulties may arise with the key slipping on the candle, which is prevented by the located power steering pressure sensor, since they were, not bad, not good.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

Once you've figured it out and have a long enough stem of the key, you can proceed with your plan, but you need to work with the key more carefully so as not to damage the sensor.

Well, thank God everything worked out for me and all the candles were safely changed. Also, do not forget to put caps on the candles according to the number and length of threads.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

That's all. We start the engine and check the operation of the engine with new spark plugs. The engine runs like clockwork.

This is exactly what we need.

Old spark plugs that have worked 30 thousand km on Gazpromneft 95G gasoline look pretty decent. The color and label on the candles, depending on the age and more or less acceptable quality of gasoline.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

The photo shows that the spark plug in the lower right corner is slightly different from the rest in a bluish color. Maybe she got a little overheated. The reason for this is not clear. Since there were no engine stops and the CHEK did not fail, it never started. So I didn't worry, let's explode and watch further.

Well ... Nothing complicated. The main thing is to prepare and, having strangled the “toad”, replace it in time. Basically, in my opinion, spark plugs are the part of the engine that works in the coldest temperature conditions. Over time, microcracks, sometimes invisible to the eye, can affect the failure of the candle, and this, in turn, negatively affects the operation of the entire system as a whole, as well as the life of the catalyst. Therefore, I always change the candles as it should be according to the norms, after 30 thousand without looking back. And I have never regretted it.

Choice for engines 1.2, 1.6 and 1.4

Before choosing spark plugs for a car, it is worth considering what type of engine you have. Renault Sandero is equipped with engines of 1,6 and 1,4 liters. However, in this case, there is a very good option that is suitable for both types of engines - these are German Bosch spark plugs with the number 0242235668.

Replacing spark plugs Renault Sandero

Judging by the experience of car owners, the use of these products allows Sandero to increase the service life. These spark plugs are also said to solve most of the problems associated with this part of the car.

This is the best and proven option for Renault Sandero, so it is better for both novice and experienced drivers to choose it. Replacing candles is a responsible matter and you should not feel sorry for yourself in these little things. Yes, these are consumables, but they must be of the highest quality, as they play an important role in Sandero's work.

But in the role of Renault Sandero 1.2 spark plugs, you should choose NGK LZKAR7A or REA8MCL from Champion. This is the recommended option and is considered the best solution for Sandero.
