Replacing the fuel filter on a VAZ 2110

Fuel filter - can be coarse and sometimes fine, both filters (i.e., a coarse filter and a fine filter) are present on cars of the 10th family, but only on condition that the car is of an injection type, that is, the filter is in the fuel pump, and the fine filter is located near the gas tank, since for cars with a carburetor this fine filter is located directly in the engine compartment, on the side of the engine, and therefore it is easier to remove it into the carburetor and put a new one in its place.

Note!

To replace this filter - you will need a screwdriver with a rag and a canister very small but wide, if you have an injector then wrenches and WD-40 or something similar are also included with this kit!

Where is the fuel filter located?

If you have a carburetor injection system, open the hood and look for a vacuum brake booster (indicated by green arrows), there is also a brake reservoir above it and this same filter is located near it, if you look at the photo below in the place indicated by the blue arrow, you can see this filter , for clarity, it is also shown in a small photograph in an enlarged size and is indicated by two red arrows.

Note!

On the nozzles, it is located in a completely different place, in order to see it you will have to climb under the car or drive it into the pit, you can also change it by climbing under the car or sticking it into the inspection hole (as you generally prefer), for greater clarity in the photo below it is indicated by a red arrow , and also in this photo you can see that it is located near the gas tank, which is indicated by the blue arrow and is located in the back of the car (under the rear seat)!

When should the fuel filter be changed?

When contaminated, it must be replaced, if you take the filters that are on the nozzles, you need to change them less often, because gasoline is cleaned in the coarse filter before it enters, which, by the way, must also be changed periodically (On how to change the cleaning of the coarse filter , read in the article: “Replacing the fuel pump grid in a car”), but if we talk about carburetor fuel filters, they are changed more often, and you can clearly understand from these filters whether you need to change it or not, in all engines, if there is a filter, the car will clog, at first they will twitch at high speeds (gasoline will not have time to get into the engine due to a dirty filter), then after a while the car will shrink at medium speeds, and so on, as we have already said on cars with a carburetor, you can look at the filter and understand how dirty it is (it’s just that these filters with transparent glass go, unlike injection ones, they are completely closed on them even after the car has driven more than 20-000 25 thousand km, it is necessary to replace the injector filter).

Note!

All filters that are present in the fuel system, from the coarse filter to the fine filter, become clogged for only one reason, the quality of the fuel is poor or there is too much water and dirt in it, so if you pour gasoline into the car in the cleanest (this is not happens), then there will be no need to change the filters in the car, and the car will drive for quite a long time!

How to replace the fuel filter on a VAZ 2110-VAZ 2112?

Replacing the filter on the injector:

Well, the last way is to disconnect the wiring block and the connector that goes to the fuel pump, that is, you will need to remove the rear seat cushion, then unscrew the screws that hold the fuel pump cover and remove it, and finally disconnect the plug from the connector, for more details on how to do everything, read the article : "Replacing the fuel pump with a VAZ", read points 2-4, including the point "Attention!" and by the way, on an eight-valve car, you won’t be able to disconnect the block with a connector, because there the block itself is inserted into the fuel pump (that is, it connects a little differently), so in these machines you don’t disconnect the block, but disconnect it! then we unscrew the screws securing the fuel pump cover and remove it, and finally disconnect the block with the connector between them, for more information on how to do this, read the article: “Replacing the fuel pump with a VAZ”, read points 2-4 in it, including the point “Attention!” and by the way, on an eight-valve car, it is not possible to disconnect the block with the connector, because there the block itself is inserted into the fuel pump (that is, it is connected a little differently), so on these cars you do not turn off the block, but you must turn it off! then we unscrew the screws securing the fuel pump cover and remove it, and finally disconnect the unit with the connector between them, for more information on how to do this, read the article: “Replacing the fuel pump with a VAZ”, read points 2-4 in it, including the point “Attention!” and by the way, on an eight-valve car, you won’t be able to disconnect the block with a connector, because there the block itself is inserted into the fuel pump (that is, it connects a little differently), so in these machines you don’t disconnect the block, but disconnect it!

1) At the beginning of operation, climb under the machine, to the place where the filter itself is located (where it is, we have already said above) and then wipe it with a rag, then spray any penetrating lubricant (WD-40 for example) on the nut tightening the clamp (Marked red arrow) and allow the grease to soak in (Wait 5 minutes) until the grease is absorbed, unscrew and disconnect the fuel pipes (There are only two of them, they are connected at both ends of the filter, the disconnection process will be shown only on one left tube as seen in the photo), is done this is as follows, the key prevents the rotation of the fuel filter through the hexagonal tube (indicated by the blue arrow), and with another key, the tube fastening nut (indicated by the green arrow) is unscrewed and after loosening the nut, the pipe is disconnected from the fine filter, the second pipe is disconnected in the same way.

Note!

As you unscrew the nuts on the fuel pipes, fuel will seep through them a little (very little if the pressure is released), so if you don’t want it to touch the floor (ground), substitute something (any container) under the pipes.)) and also, after disconnecting the tubes, rubber o-rings will be located at their ends, you will immediately see them and can remove them with a screwdriver or hands, so if they are deformed, cracked, broken or something else with them, if this happens, then in this case replace these rings with new ones, otherwise gasoline may leak out a little through the fuel lines (it will leak a little), and this is already very dangerous!

2) Not all cars will have these nuts that hold the fuel lines, for example, if you take cars of the 10th family with a 1,6 liter engine, then these nuts are absent on them and the fuel filter is completely different, so there is nothing to do mistake when buying, so on 1.6 liter engines, the fuel pipes are attached to the latches, if you look at the photo below, this is clearly visible (the metal latches are indicated by arrows), these pipes are disconnected as follows, you have to press the latch with your hand, sinking it and after which the filter tube can be disconnected, moreover as soon as both tubes are disconnected (regardless of engine size, this applies to both 1,5 and 1,6), take a wrench or socket wrench and unscrew the bolt with it, while it is recommended to hold the nut on the bolt with the second wrench so that it did not turn (see small photo), you do not need to completely unscrew the bolt, just loosen it a little to loosen the clamp that holds the filter, and then you can remove the filter and replace him to a new one.

Note!

A new fine filter is installed on the car in the reverse order of removal, when installing, follow the arrow that is marked on the body of the new filter, if you have a car with an engine capacity of 1,5, then this arrow should look on the left side of the car, on sixteen-valve engines with a volume of 1,6 liters, the arrow should be directed to the starboard side of the car (Look in the direction of the car), and by the way, when everything is connected, turn on the ignition for 5 seconds (it’s better to have an assistant do this) and look for fuel leaks somewhere through fuel lines or through the filter itself, if any, then we solve the problem, as we said earlier, the stains may be due to wear on the sealing rings, as well as poorly adjusted tubes and poorly tightened nuts that hold them!

Replacing the filter on the carburetor:

Everything is simple here, two screws are unscrewed with a screwdriver that fasten the fuel hoses to the fuel filter (the screws are indicated by arrows), after which these hoses are disconnected from the filter, if fuel comes out of them, then plug the hoses with your finger, or insert some kind of plug into them ( a bolt of a suitable diameter, for example) or tighten the hoses, then install a new filter in its place and connect both hoses to it (When connecting, look at the small photo for clarity, the arrow is shown on the filter, so the arrow should be directed towards the flow fuel, in general, see how your hoses are doing and always remember that fuel is supplied from the gas tank to the carb) and the replacement of the fuel filter can be considered successful.
