Replacing rear brake pads and drum Chevrolet Lanos

Replacing the rear brake pads and brake drum is a fairly regular operation, and if you want to replace the brake pads (drum) on Chevrolet (Daewoo) Lanos cars yourself, then we have prepared for you detailed instructions on how to do it yourself.

Using a jack, we raise the car, be sure to use a safety net - we put a beam under the front wheel, for example, on both sides, as well as under the rear lower suspension arm, in case the car jumps off the jack. We unscrew and remove the wheel, we see a brake drum in front of us.

Using a hammer and a flat screwdriver, we successively knock out the protective cap from the hub (see photo).

Next, you need to remove the brake drum, but this may cause problems.

When the brake drum is worn out, a convex strip may appear on it (the place where the pads do not touch the drum), it may interfere with pulling the brake drum from the hub. In this case, there are several solutions:

Loosen the handbrake cable from the passenger compartment by disassembling the trim around the handbrake and loosen the adjusting nut, you can also loosen the cable near the end of the muffler, there is also an adjusting nut. The next way is to knock down the brake drum by evenly tapping with a hammer on its outer flat radius. (be careful, this method can ruin the wheel bearings). If the drum has already loosened enough, then in this case you can put the wheel back in place, pulling the drum off with it is more convenient and easier.

They removed the drum, what we see (see photo). To remove this entire structure, it is necessary to disconnect the spring caps numbered 1. (the caps must be turned so that the pin (looks like a flat screwdriver) goes into the groove in the spring cap). Having done this, the entire structure will be removed from the hub. It is advisable to remember, even photograph, what is located and where.

We take new pads and now our task is to hang all the springs and rods on them in the same order. Note: The number 2 pull should be positioned so that the short end of one of the forks is on the outside.

After the whole system is assembled, we put it back on the hub, it is convenient to put on the springs with the cap using pliers, holding the cap with the spring, pressing on the spring and turning the cap so that it locks in place.

Replacing the brake drum and adjusting the brakes

If you decide to replace the brake drum, then after lubricating the wheel bearing with new grease, we put the brake drum on the hub, insert the bearing, washer and tighten the wheel nut. Now you need to correctly adjust the tightening of the hub. This can be done in the following way, gradually tighten the hub nut (in small steps) while rotating the hub both forward and backward. We carry out these actions until the hub rotates hard. Now, also in small steps, releasing the nut, scroll the hub until it rotates freely. That's it, now you can put the cotter pin in the nut, put on the protective cap.

To adjust the brakes, you need to press the brake pedal 10-15 times (you will hear characteristic clicks in the rear hub). After that all the brakes are set, it is advisable to check the wheel blocking, both from the brakes and from the hand brake.

Questions and answers:

How to remove the brake drum? Fix the machine in a stationary state, remove the wheel, unscrew the fastening bolts, evenly knocking a wooden block on the rim from the side of the wing with a wooden block around the entire circumference.

When to change the rear Lanos brake pads? Rear brake pads on Lanos, on average, serve about 30 thousand kilometers. But the reference point should be their condition, not the distance traveled (driving style affects).
