Replacing the rear shock absorbers with a VAZ 2101-2107

On cars of the “classic” family, starting from the VAZ 2101 and ending with 2107, the rear shock absorbers usually change at least every 70 km. But you should not treat this run unambiguously. Agree that each car owner operates his car in completely different conditions. Some, except for themselves and a couple of passengers, never loaded their car with anything, while others, on the contrary, pulled everything they could, heavy loads in the trunk and even operated a car with a trailer. It is during operation with a trailer that the rear shock absorbers fail very quickly.

It is possible that they will not flow through 10-20 thousand kilometers, but their performance will clearly deteriorate. When driving on the highway at a decent speed, above 80 km / h, the rear of the car begins to float, which negatively affects handling. When you hit the hole, there is a characteristic knock in the rear, which indicates that it is time to change the shock absorbers.

A necessary tool for replacing rear shock absorbers with a VAZ 2101-2107

• Open-end or ring spanner 19
• Head with a knob or ratchet for 19
• Pry bar and hammer
• Penetrating lubricant

Instructions for repair (replacement) of shock absorbers on the “classic”

So, before proceeding with the repair, the first thing to do is to raise the VAZ 2101-2107 with a jack, namely its rear part, or to carry out work in the pit, but still slightly fixing the slight lifting of the car with a jack.

Immediately apply a penetrating lubricant to all threaded connections to make it easier to unscrew. After a few minutes, we try to unscrew the lower mounting bolt, on the one hand throwing a key on it, and on the other hand, we try to tear it off with a crank. When the turning force has become more or less weak, it is best to use a ratchet to make it faster and more convenient:

After the nut is completely unscrewed, we knock out the bolt with a hammer, be sure to use some kind of substrate, so as not to damage the thread:

Now the lower part of the shock absorber is completely released, which we can see in the photo below:

Then you can proceed to the top. There you will need only one key or a head with a knob, since you do not need to hold anything:

And to release the shock absorber, you can slightly pry it to the side with a pry bar, as is clearly shown in the photo below:

Now the rear shock absorber is completely removed from the car and can be removed, and the result of the work done is shown in the picture:

After that, we carry out similar actions with another shock absorber and replace the old ones with new ones. Installation is carried out in reverse order. The price of new shock absorbers for the VAZ 2101-2107 is from 400 rubles per piece, and their cost also depends on the type of device (gas or oil), as well as on the manufacturer.
