Citizens of foreign countries have the right to drive their personal vehicles with the rights of the national standard of their country or international standard on the territory of Russia.

However, on November 5, 2013, an amendment to the rules of the road was adopted, which obliges all representatives of other states to obtain a Russian driver's license if they travel across the territory of the Russian Federation in commercial vehicles - fixed-route taxis, deliver goods, and so on.

This amendment primarily applies to Russian entrepreneurs who allow persons without a driving license of the standard established in Russia to drive their vehicles on the territory of the Russian Federation. In any big city you can meet minibuses of characteristic Caucasian or Central Asian appearance who are engaged in cabs or taxi drivers from Azerbaijan, Armenia and other former republics of the Soviet Union.

So, according to the new legislation, entrepreneurs who keep drivers without Russian licenses at work face a fine of 50 rubles for each such driver. And the driver himself will be suspended from driving for 2 years

This law came into force in November 2013, so entrepreneurs urgently need to send their employees from the former republics of the USSR to obtain the rights of the established form.

In order for a foreign employee to obtain Russian rights, he needs to submit the following package of documents:

  • passport;
  • certificate of temporary registration on the territory of the Russian Federation;
  • the original of your national university;
  • medical certificate;
  • a certificate from his Russian employer on registration as a driver;
  • receipt for payment of 800 rubles of duty.

If a person is going to move to Russia for permanent residence, while not intending to work as a driver professionally, then his driver's license will be valid only 2 months after submitting documents for acquiring Russian citizenship. He will also have to go through the procedure for obtaining a Russian driver's license.
