Life after Holden: HSV says trucks are the future as new Chevrolet Silverado 2500 prepares to launch

HSV bets on the Chevrolet Silverado.

HSV outlined its short-term future by telling Cars Guide it will continue to focus on its current US truck line and new ones as GM completes the closure of Holden in Australia.

The Walkinshaw Group, owners of the HSV brand, remain poised to launch the new GMSV brand, which is expected to focus on Chevrolet's broader vehicle portfolio, including the possible launch of the C8 Corvette.

But with GM Holden still effectively at war with its former dealer network in Australia, talks about the new venture - whatever it looks like - appear to be on hold for the time being.

As recently as last week, GM Holden ordered its dealers to begin the "dispute resolution" process from June 8th. "fair and reasonable", while his dealers say otherwise.

Existing HSV dealers are independent, so because Cars Guide understands this, does not participate in the negotiations. Even if the attached Holden dealer closes, the HSV dealership can continue to operate.

But the question is what exactly to sell? The US giants will be in the spotlight in the short to medium term, according to HSV, and the brand hopes to build its future on the growing popularity of imported (and local) pickups.

"The Walkinshaw Group has a rich history of bringing interesting vehicles to market and we will continue to do so in the near future," a spokesperson said. Cars Guide.

“We have just launched the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which we are very pleased with, and we will continue to bring interesting vehicles to the market in the near future.”

Since the American variant of the Colorado is considered excluded for Australia - due to the costs associated with importing / converting cars - this means that the next cab from the HSV rank is expected to be the new Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

The HSV is already in shape in the 2500 space, but the car we sell in Australia has been replaced in the US. This means that a new truck will soon join the fleet here.

The new 2500 combines an existing 6.6-liter V8 diesel engine with a new Alison 10-speed automatic transmission, which Chev says boosts pulling power to a staggering 16,102kg - though only on "properly equipped" models.
