However, it should be remembered that the use of chains is only allowed on snowy roads. Otherwise, the driver must take into account a fine of PLN 100. It is also worth noting the presence of a road sign (С-18) instructing motorists to put chains on min. two driving wheels.

Drivers also need to pay attention to two things: firstly, the technical condition of the vehicle and their skills. Low temperatures and rainfall favor disruptions. According to roadside assistance company Stater, every fourth "winter" breakdown is related to the battery, usually with its discharge, and 21% of failures are caused by the engine (data for the winter of 2013). The key to a well-maintained car is its responsible operation and regular inspection by specialists. There is no substitute for the owner of the daily care of the car, the implementation of maintenance activities and monitoring the level of fluids or the condition of the wipers. Motorists who have to drive in difficult conditions should also evaluate their capabilities and step on the gas pedal sparingly. Even a seemingly smooth road can be covered with ice - skidding is very easy, getting out of it is much more difficult. During heavy snow, the visibility of signs, especially horizontal ones, deteriorates, and driving in such conditions requires special care.
