Sign "Baby in the car"

Transporting children in a vehicle is a serious and responsible undertaking. When transporting minor passengers, drivers of cars and buses are required to carefully observe the rules of the road. In addition, it is necessary to use items designed to preserve the life and health of babies during transportation, which include seat belts, child car seats or infant carriers, and, if necessary, stickers warning about minor passengers in the car.

Use of the "Children in the Car" sign

Distinctive signs announcing the presence of babies in the car are often found on cars today. Stickers on personal vehicles differ in a variety of shapes (diamonds, squares, no frame, etc.) and images. Among the latter are babies, fairy-tale characters, paraphernalia for babies (nipples, bottles), baby hands, names and much more. But none of these signs is a state standard and is used by car owners to attract the attention of other road users. Purpose of warning drivers about transporting children:

  • a call for a careful driving style;
  • maintaining a distance between cars;
  • the exclusion of sharp and aggressive maneuvers on the road close to the car in which the children;
  • in the event of an accident - drawing attention to the car for immediate assistance to minors.

Stickers with inscriptions and artistic images of children and other things are not state samples of the "Baby in the car" sign

The only sign approved by the SDA and reliably informing about the transportation of children is a yellow square framed by a red stripe. On the yellow background of the square, black silhouettes of two running people are depicted.

The image on the sign "Transportation of children" completely coincides with the image on the road sign 1.23 - "Children".

According to the regulations, on the front glass of the vehicle, the sticker must be 25*25 cm in size, on the rear - 40*40 cm.

Organized transportation of 8 or more minor passengers

According to clause 22.6 of the SDA, a vehicle that carries out the organized transportation of eight or more minors unaccompanied by parents (guardians, adoptive parents) and at the same time is not a route vehicle must have the sign "Transportation of children" without fail. In other cases (accompaniment of small passengers by official representatives, less than 8 minors in a vehicle, etc.), the presence of a sign is optional.

Since it is impossible to transport a group of children in such a quantity in a car, the rule on the presence of a special sticker applies only to buses.

Clause 4.5.19 of GOST R 51160–98 states that the sticker “Transportation of children” must be placed on the front glass of the bus (sign size is 25 * 25 cm), as well as on the back (40 * 40 cm). At the same time, the sign should not block the driver's view and in any way interfere with him.

Transportation of children by private car, taxi, public transport

For private transportation of babies, the requirement for a special sign does not apply - in these cases, the sticker is optional. But when transporting a child in a car, you should focus on safety as much as possible - put the baby in a child car seat (up to 7 years old is mandatory), securely fasten the belts, observe the speed limit and not perform dangerous maneuvers.

My family has a passenger car, in which we move around the city, and sometimes over long distances. With the advent of the child and the purchase of a child car seat, my husband and I placed a sticker on the rear window of the car warning that the baby was in the car. In my opinion, such a sign is necessary for car owners with small passengers. After all, this attracts the attention of other drivers and in most cases they keep their distance and much less often react nervously to the low speed of the vehicle in front with a child inside.

Penalty for the absence of the sign "Transportation of children"

In 2018, drivers carrying out organized transportation of a large group of children (8 or more people) on a bus without the “Transportation of Children” sign established by the state standard may receive a fine of 500 rubles or a warning from the traffic police.

In all other cases, there is no penalty for missing a sticker.

A distinctive sign on a car, signaling the presence of children in the cabin, is not mandatory for everyone and its absence does not threaten with a fine. But warning other participants about the transportation of minors with an appropriate sticker will not do any harm, and in some cases even help to avoid accidents on the road.
