3 annual vehicle inspections

No wonder you can work with cars a lot. Headlights/tail lights, engine oil, transmission fluid, tire pressure, car interior, bumpers, the list goes on. That's why you don't have to deal with the stress, care and time that goes into proper car maintenance on your own. You need a team ready to help you along the way and look no further than your auto shop.

When caring for a car and ensuring it lasts a long time, there are different levels of intervals for what is needed. For example, every month you should check your tire pressure and wiper fluid. Usually every three months you should change the oil and replace the wiper blades as needed. But there may be a few annual tasks that go unnoticed or forgotten. Performance Muffler is here (not only with this article, but ready to service your vehicle) to share three things your auto repair shop should check annually for proper vehicle maintenance.

Inspect the brake system

Perhaps the most important thing your mechanic should check every year is your car's braking system. Of course, the brake system includes brake fluid, brake linings, rotors and brake pads.

Brake pads last between 30,000 and 35,000 miles on average. As such, you most likely won't need any brake system replacements or repairs for the annual inspection. However, you can never be too careful when checking your brakes carefully. Even if you don't notice any squeaks or increased stopping times, checking your brakes is critical.

Check shock absorbers and struts

Another important element in driving your car are shock absorbers and struts. Shock absorbers help keep the car stable and prevent it from rocking. You will most likely notice any problems when braking, accelerating, or driving on gravel or bumpy roads. But just like with your brakes, you can't go wrong with having your mechanic check them once a year. And if it's a good, consistent mechanic, they'll probably be checking it out annually by now.

Change coolant/antifreeze along with other fluids

Another important annual car job is checking and replacing the coolant/antifreeze. This may depend on the make and model of your vehicle. For this reason, it is always best to leave it to the professionals. Let them give their opinion on your coolant/antifreeze levels and when you should change them.

Similarly, many other fluids are essential to the operation of your vehicle. Brake fluid, transmission fluid and windshield washer fluid. Talk to your auto shop when you bring your car in so they can help you with that as well.

Other car items to look out for

Aside from the yearly tasks, there are a few other things you should keep an eye on when caring for your car. They will depend on your car and how often you drive.

Air filters. They may need to be replaced every year, but you'll have a good idea when changing the oil. Air filters protect your engine from debris, so don't underestimate their importance.

car battery. Your car battery can last between three and five years. But it is recommended to start checking after the third year of battery operation. A car service can also help you with this. After all, you don't want to end up having to jump start your car. Take care of your car's battery before it gets to this stage.

Exhaust system. You can keep your eyes peeled and check regularly for any potential exhaust system damage. The car muffler and catalytic converter are often prime suspects. However, Performance Muffler professionals are happy to help with any questions, service or exhaust system repairs.

Regular vehicle maintenance

Regular car care and maintenance will ensure its operation for many years. This is why we recommend performing regular maintenance tasks such as checking tires, inspecting belts/hoses, etc.
