VAZ 2106 is a kind of continuation of the traditions of the domestic automotive industry - a descendant of the VAZ 2103 model. At the same time, AvtoVAZ designers have changed little in the design of the new car - except that they made the exterior more modern and aerodynamic. But the main difference between the new "six" was the bumper with L-shaped endings.

What bumpers are installed on the "six"
VAZ 2106 was produced from 1976 to 2006. Of course, during all this time the design of the car has been repeatedly refined and re-equipped. Modernization touched and bumpers.
On the "six" traditionally installed only two types of buffers:
- an aluminum bumper with a longitudinal decorative trim and plastic side parts;

The design features of the "six" make it possible to fasten almost any VAZ buffer to the body - both from earlier models and from modern Lada. In this case, it will be necessary to slightly modify the fasteners, since the bumpers from related models still have their own characteristics of fixing to the body.

If the car owner is interested in a bumper from a foreign car, then the smallest alterations can be achieved only by installing a buffer from different Fiat models. Of course, you can install a bumper from any foreign car on your car, but it will take a lot of time to refine it. At the same time, it is worth emphasizing that the changed appearance of the body will not guarantee a safe ride - after all, only a factory or similar bumper combines both aesthetics and protection.
Is it possible to put a homemade bumper
This question worries many drivers. After all, it is much easier and cheaper for craftsmen to weld their own buffer for a car than to buy a new one on the market. However, installing a home-made element on the body is a risk of falling under part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses 12.5. In particular, this part tells that the operation of a vehicle with unregistered body changes is prohibited and entails a fine of 500 r:
7.18. Changes have been made to the design of the vehicle without the permission of the State Road Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation or other bodies determined by the Government of the Russian Federation.
However, the "bumper" parameter is not included in the list of changes to be made. That is, the law does not provide for any sanctions against drivers who themselves made and installed a bumper on their car. However, despite this, it should be borne in mind that the attention of every oncoming traffic police inspector will be riveted to the bright and non-standard bumper - and in the end, you won’t get away with fines.
How to remove the front bumper
Dismantling the front bumper on the VAZ 2106 is carried out using simple tools:
- flat screwdriver;
- wrenches for 10 and 13.
The procedure itself takes 10-15 minutes and does not require any preparation:
- Pry off the plastic trim on the bumper with a screwdriver.
- Remove overlay.
- Unscrew the bolts with a wrench, first from one bracket (behind the bumper), then from the other.
- Carefully remove the bumper from the bracket.

Accordingly, the new bumper is installed on the car in the reverse order.
How to remove the rear bumper
To dismantle the rear buffer from the VAZ 2106, you will need the same tools: a screwdriver and wrenches. The removal procedure itself is identical to the scheme of working with the front bumper, however, on a number of models of the "six" it may differ significantly:
- The rear bumper cover is attached with screws.
- Loosen the cover screws and remove it.
- Next, unscrew the bolts on the brackets.
- Remove buffer.

The rear bumper can be removed from the body without removing the lining (the screws often rust and are difficult to remove). To dismantle, it is enough to unscrew the two bolted connections that hold the brackets in the body, and simply pull the bumper towards you. In this case, it will be dismantled along with the brackets.
What are bumper fangs
Bumper fangs are plastic or rubber elements on which, in fact, the bumper rests (in addition to supporting the bracket). Despite the identical appearance, the fangs for the front and rear bumpers have some differences and it is not recommended to confuse them, as the bumper fit will be inaccurate.
The task of the fangs is not just to support the buffer, but also to provide additional body protection.

Each canine is attached to the bracket with a stud and nut, as well as a lock washer to avoid wobble and play. That is, the fang already contains a stud, which must be inserted into the hole in the bracket and tightened with a nut and washer.
Thus, self-replacing a bumper on a VAZ 2106 is a simple procedure that does not require experience or special work skills. However, when choosing a new buffer, it is recommended to install one that would be an analogue of the factory bumper - this is the only way to achieve a harmonious appearance of the car and its safety.
