Bjorn Nyland has tested the actual range of the BMW iX3. For the large D-segment SUV with 74 (80) kWh battery and 210 kW (286 hp) engine, the car performed really well in terms of energy consumption, especially at higher speeds. This bodes well for the BMW i4 range, which uses the same powertrain as the 5th generation eDrive.

BMW iX3 - range test

The BMW iX3 rode on 20-inch wheels with Bridgestone Alenza tires (245/45 R20 front, 275/40 R20 rear), the temperature was 14 degrees Celsius and rising, so the conditions were ideal. On the scales it turned out that BMW iX3 matches Volvo XC40 (C-SUV with smaller battery) and Ford Mustang Mach-E (D-SUV with larger battery) - with hardware and driver it weighed exactly 2,3 tons.

As Bjorn Nyland noted, the car was quiet, but the way she spoke was also heard. It got louder in the recently tested VW ID.3.

At a speed of 120 km / h the total range of the BMW iX3, assuming we discharge the battery to zero, is 318 km. In 90 km / h grows up to 442 km. Assuming we're driving in the 80->10 percent range, the values drop to 223 and 309 kilometers respectively. But the most surprising thing is the power consumption: at a speed of 120 km / h it was on average 23,5 kWh / 100 km, and at 90 km/h – 16,8 kWh/100 km!

At 90 km / h, almost the same result was achieved with the lower and smaller Polestar 2 (but with all-wheel drive) and the VW ID.4 1st 77 kWh (smaller and weaker). At a speed of 120 km / h, the Volkswagen ID.4 turned out to be less efficient, so with almost the same battery capacity, the BMW iX3 will go further. That's not all: the VW ID.4 charges at a maximum power of 125 kW, while the BMW iX3 accelerates to 150 kW, so the buyer will spend less time at the charging station, provided the stations support that power, of course ( e.g. Ionity).

The direct competitor to the BMW iX3 is the Tesla Model Y, which is not yet available in Europe. There's the Mercedes EQC, the Jaguar I-Pace, the even bigger Audi e-tron and the smaller Volkswagen ID. Compared to all these models, the BMW iX3 looks exceptionally good.when it comes to value for money. Currently, the car starts at PLN 268 and we get a standard set of equipment similar to the one we saw in the more expensive (!) Skoda Enyaq iV 900, which we recently tested.

From PLN 291 – an impressive version – we get premium sound (Harman Kardon), better front soundproofing, HUD, wireless phone charger or adaptive suspension (EDC). So if we have PLN 300-280 thousand to spend on an electrician, we do not want a Tesla Model 300, we are not interested in waiting for Model Y, and the upcoming Audi Q3 e-tron is too small for us, then BMW iX3 may be the right choice.
