Clean headlights and windows

In the winter season, the phrase "to see and be seen" takes on a special meaning.

Quick twilight and very muddy roads mean we have to work hard to keep our headlights clean and thus keep the road well lit.

In winter, even as at this time of year, the roads are often wet, and the dirt on them very quickly stains the headlights and windows of the car. Cleaning your windshield shouldn't be a problem if you have good wiper blades and washer fluid. On the other hand, headlight cleaning is worse because most cars are not equipped with headlight washers. This equipment is mandatory only then if xenon is installed. With other types of lights this is optional.

If we have headlight washers, in most cars we don't have to remember to turn them on because they start with the windshield washer.

This is a disadvantage for a certain group of drivers, as fluid consumption increases significantly. But the headlight washer is a very useful device and when buying a new car, you should think about this accessory.

In winter, on a wet road, the headlights get dirty very quickly, it is enough to drive 30-40 km and the headlight efficiency is reduced to 30%. When driving during the day is not annoying and also not very noticeable. However, at night the difference is huge and every meter of visibility counts, which can save us from a collision or collision with a pedestrian. Dirty headlights also make oncoming traffic much more dazzling, even when properly positioned, as fordding causes additional refraction of the light beam.

You can see how dirty the headlights are by looking at the windshield where the wipers don't work. The lights are lower so they will be even dirtier. Unfortunately, if we don't have headlight washers, the only way to clean them is to stop the car and wipe them with our hands. It must not be done dry.

Sandy dirt sticks very tightly to a heated reflector and dry cleaning will scratch and dull the reflector. It is best to use a liquid for this purpose, pre-wetting it abundantly, and then wiping it with a soft cloth or paper towel.

Cleaning has to be done more carefully when the coating is made of plastic, and there are more and more such headlights. If we are already standing, it is also worth cleaning the rear lights, which get dirty even faster than the front ones. It doesn't hurt to clean the windows while the car is parked. Also, once every few weeks, you need to wash the windshield from the inside, as it is also very dirty and significantly reduces visibility. In smokers and in cars without a cabin filter, the glass gets dirty faster.
