Drag race: when the Zero SR / F takes on the Tesla Model 3

Organized by InsidEVs Italia, the match between Zero Motorcycles and California sedan ended with an unexpected victory.

If it has become relatively common to see the Tesla Model 3 as opposed to electric vehicles or diesel locomotives, then it is much less common to meet it face to face with two-wheeled vehicles. And yet that's exactly what Italian journalists InsidEVs Italia have done by contrasting Tesla's stellar sedan to Zero Motorcycles' latest electric motorcycle: the SR / F.

On paper, a Tesla Model 3 seems very likely. In the Performance version, the California sedan develops up to 380 kW (510 hp), five times the 82 kW (110 hp) offered by the Zero SR / F. The latter, however, has a weight advantage. Limited to 220 kg, it is 9 times lighter than the Model 3, which has a maximum weight of almost 1900 kg.

To summarize in the video below, drag racing, organized over a quarter mile (400 m), is rich in twists and turns. If the Tesla Model 3 was the first to reach 100 km / h, then it was overtaken by the SR / F, which finally finished the race a few meters ahead. Upon arrival, two cars exceeded 180 km / h.

A good win for the Zero electric bike, even if the race configuration was largely favorable to it. If it had been staged over a longer distance, the Model 3 would probably have caught up and topped the Zero SR / F thanks to its higher top speed (261 VS 200 km / h).
