Nissan QG18DD engine
Content
Nissan Motors is a modern type of engine that features simple naming methods for each engine.
These are the names of not one specific engine, but also a decoding of its type:
- unit series;
- volume;
- injection method.
- other features of the engine.
QG is a family of four-cylinder ICEs developed by Nissan. The product line includes not only varieties of the usual DOHC engines, but also variants of products with direct injection (DEO Di). There are also engines that run on liquefied gas QG18DEN. All QG motors are characterized by the presence of a mechanism that allows you to change the gas distribution phases, which makes it possible to consider the motor as an analogue of VVTi.
The qg18dd is known to be manufactured in Japan and Mexico. The engine is tuned to achieve torque at low RPM and high power levels. This is necessary to ensure that the engine responds to the pedal. Cast iron is selected as the material for the manufacture of the engine, the cylinder head is made of aluminum. Also, details have a great influence on the characteristics of the functionality of the motor:
- MPI fuel injection;
- forged steel connecting rods;
- polished camshafts;
- aluminum intake manifold.
The QG18DE is equipped with Nissan's N-VCT technology, which won the 2001 RJC Technology Award.
The Nissan QG engine series are models of internal combustion gasoline engines from the manufacturer Nissan Motors. This series is represented by four-cylinder and four-stroke models, the volume of which can be equal to:
- 1,3 l;
- 1,5 l;
- 1,6 l;
- 1,8 l.
The presence of a phase change system is typical for gas distribution areas in the intake shaft area. Some engines of the range are equipped with a direct injection system.
The 1,8-liter engine is equipped with Nissan Variable Cam Timing, optimized for normal city driving conditions. The disassembled photo can be viewed below.

Motor reliability
To determine the reliability of an engine, it is important to know about its positive and negative sides.
Unit advantages:
- There are injectors - intake manifold swirlers. It was the QG gasoline power units that were among the first to practice the use of this system. Before that, it was used only for cars with a diesel engine type.
- To ensure complete combustion of the fuel, a part of a special valve in the manifold and a fuel pressure regulator are used. It redistributes the air flow depending on what load and speed, as well as what the possibilities of creating a vortex of the combustion chamber.
- The control connector maf sensors allows you to monitor the process of fuel combustion. Due to the closed position of the control valve, when the engine is warming up and running at a low level of speed, an additional swirl of the fuel flow is achieved. This improves the combustion characteristics of the fuel in the cylinder and reduces the level of nitrogen and carbon oxides.
- Checking the output signals of the injectors is carried out without problems;
- The lighter catalyst has a 50% larger working surface due to the new piston head design, which provides opportunities for improving the environmental parameter of the motor.
- Interchangeability coupling vvt i 91091 0122 when performing repair work.
- For the motor, full compliance with the level of strict environmental standards E4 in Germany and environmental standards that came into effect in 2005 in European countries is guaranteed.
- The Nissan engine has a Niss QG18DE model that has an on-board system that allows full diagnostics. In case of any, even the most insignificant failure of the components of the exhaust system, this will be recorded during on-board diagnostics and recorded in the system's memory.
The disadvantage of the model is that it is difficult to repair it, only a specialist with extensive practical experience in repairing motors can do this. Also, sometimes drivers note that the engine does not start in cold weather.
Maintainability
Cleaning of the injection pump and repair of the motor are not provided by the manufacturer.
