Ford Duratec V6 engines

The Ford Duratec V6 gasoline engine series was produced from 1993 to 2013 in three different sizes from 2.0 to 3.0 liters.

A series of Ford Duratec V6 gasoline engines was produced by the company from 1993 to 2013 and was installed on many models of the concern produced under the Ford, Mazda and Jaguar brands. The Mazda K-engine line of V6 engines was taken as the basis for the design of these power units.

Ford Duratec V6

In 1994, the first generation Ford Mondeo debuted with a 2.5-liter Duratec V6 engine. It was a very classic V-twin engine with a 60-degree camber angle, an aluminum block with cast-iron liners, a couple of DOHC heads with hydraulic lifters. The timing drive was carried out by a pair of chains, and the fuel injection here was the usual distributed one. In addition to the Mondeo, this motor was installed on its American versions of the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique.

In 1999, the diameter of the pistons was slightly reduced so that the working volume of the internal combustion engine was below 2500 cm³, and in a number of countries, car owners with this power unit could save on tax. Also this year, an advanced version of the motor appeared, which was installed on the Mondeo ST200. Thanks to evil camshafts, a larger throttle, a different intake manifold and an increased compression ratio, the power of this engine was raised from 170 to 205 hp.

In 1996, a 3-liter version of this engine appeared on the American models of the 3.0rd generation Ford Taurus and the similar Mercury Sable, which, apart from volume, did not differ much. With the release of the Ford Mondeo MK3, this power unit began to be offered on the European market. In addition to the regular 200 hp version. there was a modification for 220 hp. for Mondeo ST220.

In 2006, a version of the 3.0-liter Duratec V6 engine with an intake phase control system debuted on the American model Ford Fusion and its clones such as the Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr. And finally, in 2009, the last modification of this motor appeared on the Ford Escape model, which received a BorgWarner phase control system already on all camshafts.

The characteristics of the European modifications of the power units of this series are summarized in the table:

2.5 liters (2544 cm³ 82.4 × 79.5 mm)

SEA (170 hp / 220 Nm)
Ford Mondeo Mk1, Mondeo Mk2

2.5 liters (2495 cm³ 81.6 × 79.5 mm)

SEB ( 170 hp / 220 Nm )

REBA (204 hp / 263 Nm)
Ford Mondeo Mk3

MEBA (226 hp / 280 Nm)
Ford Mondeo Mk3

Mazda MZI

In 1999, a 2.5-liter V6 engine debuted on the second generation MPV minivan, which in its design was no different from the power units of the Duratec V6 family. Then a similar 6-liter ICE appeared on the Mazda 3.0, MPV and Tribute for the US market. And then this engine was updated in the same way as the 3.0-liter units from Ford described above.

The most widespread are only two power units with a volume of 2.5 and 3.0 liters:

2.5 liters (2495 cm³ 81.6 × 79.5 mm)

GY-DE (170 hp / 211 Nm)
Mazda MPV LW

3.0 liters (2967 cm³ 89 × 79.5 mm)

AJ-DE (200 hp / 260 Nm)
Mazda 6 GG, MPV LW, Tribute EP

AJ-VE (240 hp / 300 Nm)
Mazda Tribute EP2

Jaguar AJ-V6

In 1999, a 3.0-liter engine from the Duratec V6 family appeared on the Jaguar S-Type sedan, which compares favorably with analogues by the presence of a phase shifter on the intake camshafts. A similar system for power units for Mazda and Ford began to be installed only in 2006. But unlike them, hydraulic compensators were not provided in the head of the AJ-V6 motor block.

Already in 2001, the AJ-V6 line of internal combustion engines was replenished with similar engines of 2.1 and 2.5 liters. In 2008, the 3.0-liter engine was upgraded and received phase shifters on all shafts.

Three engines belong to this line, but each of them had several different versions:

2.1 liters (2099 cm³ 81.6 × 66.8 mm)

AJ20 (156 hp / 201 Nm)
Jaguar X-Type X400

2.5 liters (2495 cm³ 81.6 × 79.5 mm)

AJ25 (200 hp / 250 Nm)
Jaguar S-Type X200, X-Type X400

3.0 liters (2967 cm³ 89.0 × 79.5 mm)

AJ30 (240 hp / 300 Nm)
Jaguar S-Type X200, XF X250, XJ X350
