First generation Hyundai Kappa engines

In 2008, Kappa family gasoline units debuted on the Hyundai i10 and i20 models. These were quite typical engines for that time with distributed fuel injection, a 4-cylinder aluminum block with cast-iron sleeves and an open cooling jacket, an aluminum 16-valve cylinder head equipped with hydraulic compensators and a timing chain drive. The first generation of such engines was not equipped with a variable valve timing system.

The first line included only one single power unit with a volume of 1.25 liters:

1.25MPi (1248cm³ 71×78.8mm)

G4LA (78 HP / 118 Nm) Hyundai i10 1 (PA), Hyundai i20 1 (PB)

In India, due to the peculiarities of tax legislation, such an engine had a volume of 1197 cm³.

Second generation Hyundai Kappa engines

In 2010 in India and in 2011 in Europe, second-generation Kappa series motors appeared, which were distinguished by the presence of a Dual CVVT type phase control system on both camshafts. The new family has been seriously expanded due to the appearance of 3-cylinder power units, as well as engines with direct fuel injection, turbocharging or hybrid modifications.

The second line included 7 engines with distributed, direct injection and turbocharging:

1.0MPi (998cm³ 71×84mm)

G3LA (67 HP / 95 Nm) Hyundai i10 2 (IA)

1.0 T-MPi (998 cm³ 71 × 84 mm)

G3LB (106 hp / 137 Nm) Kia Picanto 2 (TA)

1.0 T-GDi (998 cm³ 71 × 84 mm)

G3LC (120 hp / 172 Nm) Hyundai i20 2 (GB)

1.25MPi (1248cm³ 71×78.8mm)

G4LA (85 HP / 121 Nm) Hyundai i20 1 (PB)

1.4MPi (1368cm³ 72×84mm)

G4LC (100 hp / 133 Nm) Kia Rio 4 (FB)

1.4 T-GDi (1353 cm³ 71.6 × 84 mm)

G4LD (140 hp / 242 Nm) Kia Ceed 3 (CD)

1.6 Hybrid (1579 cm³ 72 × 97 mm)

G4LE (105 HP / 148 Nm) Kia Niro 1 (DE)

Hyundai Kappa Smartstream engines

In 2018, the Hyundai-Kia concern introduced a new family of Smart Stream power units, within which many Kappa series engines, conditionally of the third generation, appeared. Such motors have just appeared and detailed information about their features has not yet been collected.

Also, it was on these internal combustion engines that a number of new technologies for the Korean concern debuted: for example, an atmospheric internal combustion engine in one of the versions received a DPi dual fuel injection system, and the supercharged unit is equipped with the latest CVVD variable valve timing system.

The third line so far includes only seven power units, but it is still in the expansion stage:

1.0MPi (998cm³ 71×84mm)

G3LD (76 hp / 95 Nm) Kia Picanto 3 (JA)

1.0 T-GDi (998 cm³ 71 × 84 mm)

G3LE (120 HP / 172 Nm) Hyundai i10 3 (AC3)
G3LF ( 120 hp / 172 Nm ) Hyundai Kona 1 (OS)

1.2MPi (1197cm³ 71×75.6mm)
