Jaguar I-Pace, reader impressions: experiences on the verge of euphoria, with a banana from ear to ear [interview]

Ajpacino reader recently bought a Jaguar I-Pace. He has already traveled more than 1,6 thousand kilometers, so we decided to ask him about the validity of the purchase and his impressions of using an electric Jaguar. It quickly emerged that he was another person who fell in love with the incredible driving pleasure that only electric cars can provide.

Two words of reminder: The Jaguar I-Pace is an electric crossover in the D-SUV segment with two electric motors (one per axle) with a total output of 400 hp, a 90 kWh battery (about 85 kWh net power) and true EPA range. 377 kilometers in mixed mode and good conditions.

Www.elektrowoz.pl editorial team: Have you driven… before?

Ajpacino reader: Range Rover Sport HSE 3.0D - and it's eight years old. Formerly Land Rover Discovery 4, 3 and… 1.

And so you bought ...

Where did this change come from?

As you can see, I remained faithful to the producer. And the change? I felt like I had changed after years of skating

large-sized all-terrain vehicles and after a significant change in marital status. Children grew up and drove to their cars (too), over 12 years later we said goodbye to our beloved big dog, the Labrador, for whom the RRS trunk was a second home.

I was craving something fresh, and what probably tipped the scales in favor of an electric car was the ability to drive a small electrician for a dozen or so days. This little electrician is a Fiat 500e.

You bought a Jaguar I-Pace. Have you considered other cars?

I first looked at large and mid-sized diesel SUVs, from the stables of Audi (Q5, 7, 8) and Volkswagen (new Touareg), new BMW X5, Volvo XC90 (hybrid) and XC60 to SsangYong (new Rexton). ), Porsche Macan and Jaguar F-Pace.

However, having experienced the pleasure of driving an "electric car" no other tested machine, not even the best internal combustion machine, could captivate me... Yes, I tried to marry sensibly, the new Touareg had every chance, but after this adventure with e-Fiat I was drawn to electricians.

I started to analyze hybrids, mainly Toyota and Lexus. Then I thought about getting a small city car, for example a BMW i3. I've looked at Nissan Leaf and e-Golf. I even drove a Tesla X. However, after I got into the I-Pace (the last car I checked), when we got into a straight line and pressed the gas pedal, then ... Tego indescribable!

Feelings on the verge of euphoria from "banana" to ears, a feeling of lightness, confident driving, excellent engine braking, etc. Etc. After driving a few kilometers in an electric Jaguar, I realized that I was looking for just such a car. Love at first sight. Everything was right: size, quality, functionality, and most importantly, amazing sensations and joy of driving.

And why did Tesla lose?

Probably because I don't need a limousine. Tesla X? It's really intriguing, maybe even more playful, but it lacks something, the atmosphere that is in the British. Also, these winged doors are, um, interesting, but probably not for me.

What do you think of the Model 3?

A very interesting proposal for a much wider audience. I think he has a great future, and he will conquer the market. It's a slightly more affordable price range, reasonable equipment, and some versatility. Something like gas burners like VW Passat.

Okay, back to the Jaguar theme: how does it drive?

Ideally! It is daily entertainment, fun, discovery of new opportunities, driving pleasure, easy overtaking and braking, SILENCE, the ability to listen to music in excellent quality and the pleasant feeling that I am not poisoning the local environment.

Are you not worried about high power consumption resulting in reduced range?

This is a thesis question. Is this energy consumption HUGE? About what? Indeed, at the cost of travel, 1 kilometer is VERY little! In any case, after this first month I find great opportunities to work with the assortment. Basically, it is about driving style and charging planning, and more specifically about using the recharge option.

on the go on DC fast chargers. Especially free so far.

After the first tens of days, during which I dumped the gas each time, the consumption on average exceeded 30 kWh / 100 km, that is, the real power reserve on the display barely exceeded 300 km. Then I started to practice driving from a standstill: the difference is huge... Is there no exhaust pipe analogy here? The range there also depends on how you drive.

It's clear. So, if you were driving intelligently, how much could you drive on a battery?

It seems more than 400 km. For example: today at noon (the temperature was 10 degrees Celsius) I made a route about 70 kilometers one way, halfway along the highway. There I drove quite briskly, but without breaking the speed limit. The effect? The consumption was about 25 kWh / 100 km and the journey to the destination took less than 55 minutes.

I drove back without haste and went through it all in 1 hour 14 minutes, that is, with an average speed of less than 60 km / h. Power consumption is below 21 kWh / 100 km. Exactly: 20,8. This means that with the 90 kWh I-Pace battery, the power reserve with such a drive can actually approach the promised more than 450-470 kilometers. ["Promised", i.e. calculated according to the WLTP procedure - ed. editor www.elektrowoz.pl]. Especially at higher temperatures.

After 1 km: what do you dislike most? Why?

What I hate the most is the turning radius, especially after the agile Range Rover Sport. We have to re-learn parking, especially perpendicular. Sometimes you even have to do it three times! Unfortunately, this is a big disadvantage.

I also don't like the behavior of owners of flue gases who park in green places next to car chargers.

electric. Something needs to be done about this and somehow explained that it is like blocking access to air.

What good

I must say: driving pleasure, caring for the environment, low – and higher than expected – energy resupply costs... Last two weeks free download planning your trip accordingly!

Single-pedal driving works fantastic. editor www.elektrowoz.pl]. By anticipating the driving situation, you can drive your vehicle effortlessly by using only the accelerator pedal to accelerate and brake. Thus, brake pads and discs will last a very long time.

Are you thinking of any other electrician? Or in other words: what will happen next?

Of course I think, because I am fascinated by this driving style! Moreover, now I am mostly "near" the chimney. My average mileage is about 2 kilometers per month within a radius of 000 km. The city itself could use the smallest Zoe, Smart or even the smallest and cheapest "Chinese" car. Apparently, this segment is developing rapidly there.

The next car will definitely have an electrician. Which the? We will find out about this in 3-4 years.
