How to get certified as a Suzuki dealer

If you are an automotive mechanic looking to improve and gain the skills and certifications that Suzuki dealerships, other service centers and automotive technician jobs in general are looking for, you may want to consider getting a Suzuki dealership certification.

Like all mechanics, you probably want peace of mind because you know that auto technician jobs are always waiting for you. This kind of knowledge means that you can constantly increase your auto mechanic salary just by looking at opportunities. It also ensures that you have job security, which is often more important than how much you are actually being paid.

If this is about you, then it would be wise to focus on learning about Suzuki cars, motorcycles and ATVs. The company has been around for over 100 years and remains popular all over the world. Earning a Suzuki Dealer Certification will not only give you the ability to work on several different vehicles, but also an ID that is recognized by employers across the country.

Become a Certified Suzuki Dealer

The good news is that the steps to this certification are actually quite simple. Like many other car manufacturers, Suzuki relies heavily on the Universal Technical Institute's certification process. UTI has been in existence for over 50 years and has earned an impeccable reputation in that time.

Since its inception, UTI has produced over 200,000 mechanics. During this time, it has become common knowledge that graduates of this organization earn more than their fellow technicians, provided that they get decent grades. So if you want a big auto mechanic salary, you can't do better than UTI.

For those who want to work with Suzuki vehicles, the FAST program is perfect. It will only take you 12 weeks to get through it all. Suzuki is doing its part to update this program with any changes they have made to their best practices or new technologies they may have implemented. Once you become a student, you will also have access to all Suzuki ServicePRO Dealer Training required to earn Bronze Technician recognition. If this is something you wish to work on, you will be given a six-month tenure to earn certification at that level. This will cut the amount of time it normally takes by half.

Once you reach Bronze status, you can upgrade to Silver. You can start working on modules for this level and the Gold level while you are in the FAST program. However, to achieve Silver status, you also need to work six months at the dealership. Gold can only be purchased after you have a year of dealer experience.

FAST course program

As we mentioned earlier, Suzuki constantly reviews its FAST course through UTI to make sure students are learning about the latest technologies and systems being used. The company has been doing this with UTI for over 20 years now, so you can rest assured that the current system is robust and designed to give you the best chance of getting a job in automotive technology after you graduate.

At the same time, at the time of writing this article, the course consisted of four sections. These sections are:

  • Section 1. Introduction to the history of the company and the significant technological contribution that it has made to the automotive, motorcycle and ATV industries. You will also learn about the dealer network and regional service organizations.

  • Section 2. Covers the skills, techniques, and principles needed to diagnose, repair, and troubleshoot Suzuki engines and transmissions.

  • Section 3 - Introduction to electrical systems integral to the operation of Suzuki vehicles. Again, this will include understanding how to diagnose problems, repair and troubleshoot when the source of the problem hints.

  • Section 4 - Learn the Essential Skills for Success in Entry Level Technician Jobs. This will include understanding the application and even the interview process so you know how to highlight your strengths.

As you can see, the course goes out of its way to ensure that students graduate with a complete understanding of Suzuki as a company, its vehicles, and what it takes to find and keep a job at a dealership.

Of course, you will also be able to continue with Bronze, Silver and Gold certifications. Any of these will only help your job prospects in the future.

If you are convinced of the benefits of being certified as a Suzuki Dealer, then you need to take the courses either at their campus in Phoenix, Arizona or what they have in Orlando, Florida.

The job of an auto mechanic can be challenging, and once you get it, it often feels like the opportunities for advancement just don't exist. If you already have a liking for Suzuki cars, then you could be doing your future a big favor by deciding to make them your specialty. The popular manufacturer is more than happy to help, as evidenced by their UTI grades.
