The engine oil level should be checked regularly. If you have a new car, it is recommended to check the engine oil after every fill-up, so you can roughly calculate how much oil your car consumes.

You can only check the level on a cold engine. If you try to check the level while the engine is running, you risk getting a hot jet in your face. If the engine has just been turned off, then all the oil has not yet drained into the crankcase, and you will not know the exact amount of oil.

To check the level, you need to stop the car on a flat horizontal area, turn off the engine and wait until the temperature drops. Even better, check the level in the morning, before leaving the garage or parking lot.

Measure the level with an oil dipstick. At its lowest flattened end there are notches - MIN, MAX, in some models there may be another MID mark between them - half. It is worth remembering that the distance between the marks for cars is approximately 1-1,5 liters, depending on the engine size.

All you need to do is remove the dipstick from the engine, wipe it with a napkin or rag, but so that there are no threads left and insert it back into the crankcase, wait a few seconds and remove it again. The normal level is when the edge of the oil film is between MIN and MAX or exactly on MID.

If there is less oil, then you need to immediately add it to the oil filler neck, marked with a watering can icon. If you don’t know exactly how much to pour, pour half a liter or a liter first and measure the level again.

Driving with a low oil level is contraindicated, especially if you prefer an aggressive driving style or your car is constantly overloaded. If the cylinder walls, crankshaft journals and other friction units are not lubricated during operation, then this is fraught with repairs, and very expensive ones.

Also, oil must not be poured, its excess will enter the crankcase ventilation system, and from it to the throttle valve or directly into the cylinders.

When checking the level, you should also pay attention to the condition of the oil - it must be clean and transparent, without impurities and emulsions, soot particles and dirt.

Fill in only the oil recommended by the manufacturer - synthetic, semi-synthetic or mineral oil. It is advisable to always pour oil from only one manufacturer. If you want to switch to a different brand of oil, you must first completely drain the old oil.

If you regularly monitor the oil level and keep it normal, you can extend the life of your engine.
