How to clear a car from Europe

There is no doubt that used cars imported from abroad are in a better technical condition than similar models that had to travel around the expanses of our vast Motherland. That is why many motorists prefer cars from Germany or France.

However, in order to use this car in Russia without problems later, it must be cleared according to all the requirements of Russian legislation. This procedure is, firstly, complicated, and secondly, expensive - duties on the import of cars are constantly increasing.

How to clear a car from Europe

Let's consider all these points step by step.

At the first stage, we need to decide on the model of the car and its cost in Europe. You should not be very happy when on any of the German or French sites you find a decent 2009-2011 model, which is cheaper than a similar model in the Russian automotive markets. To the cost of the car should be added:

  • the cost of "customs clearance";
  • expenses for the services of a ferryman, or their expenses for traveling abroad, living there;
  • gasoline costs.

The most expensive in this list is the cost of customs clearance, it is calculated based on the engine size. So, for a car with an engine capacity of less than one liter, you will have to pay according to the scheme:

  • 1 cu. cm = 1,5 euros.

If the engine capacity exceeds 3 liters, then you will have to pay 3,6 euros per “cube”. The resulting amount will have to be added to the cost of the car. For example, on a German ad site, you found a wonderful Citroen Jumper 2,8 Diesel commercial vehicle for 10 euros. We look at the table of coefficients - 3 euros per "cube". It turns out that we will have to pay for customs clearance - 2800 cubic cm * 3 = 8400 euros, that is, the purchase will cost us not 10 thousand, but 18 thousand euros.

It is also worth noting that the import duty also depends on the age of the car. If the car is more than five years old, then import duties are almost doubled. It turns out that old cars, when imported into Russia, will cost more than new ones. Therefore, used cars aged 3 to 5 years are in great demand.

The second point that you need to think about is how to deliver the car. There are a number of third-party companies and simple individual entrepreneurs that deliver cars, their services cost an average of around $ 1 thousand - 35-40 thousand rubles. If you want to go personally to Germany, then obtaining a visa, buying round-trip tickets + accommodation will cost about the same, if not more.

The next important point is that you need to know the approximate amount of the purchase even before the trip in order to make a deposit (it is called a deposit) corresponding to the amount of the customs fee on the customs account. The deposit is paid by postal order a few days before going abroad. Also, customs officers must be warned about which of the checkpoints you or the ferryman will enter the territory of the Russian Federation through and indicate the approximate date - plus / minus two days. After paying the deposit, you will be issued a corresponding certificate.

When you are already returning to Russia, you will need to present the following documents at the checkpoint:

  • customs declaration TD-6 indicating the characteristics of the car and the VIN code;
  • guarantee certificate and receipt (they were given to you after paying the deposit);
  • copies of all documents on the car.

All these documents are transferred to the control body, where they are drawn up in accordance with all the rules of the law. Your car at this time can move through the territory of Russia with transit numbers to the final destination, where all the formalities will first be carried out in the customs control zone, and then it will be registered with the traffic police. An obligatory condition is the presence of an OSAGO insurance policy.

It is worth noting that for individuals there is a simplified customs clearance scheme, which includes only the payment of duties. This scheme is valid only for those who import a car for personal use. If a person imports more than three cars a year, or imports a car for commercial use, then in addition to the duty, he will also have to pay value added tax and excise tax, which owners of transport companies with large fleets of automobiles and special equipment constantly face. The customs clearance procedure for legal entities is more complicated and expensive.

Of course, all these worries can be put on the shoulders of numerous companies and official brokers involved in customs clearance, but their services are by no means free, though everything will be done quickly, so you don’t even have to strain.

There are a lot of pitfalls in the customs legislation, for example, not only the engine size, but also fuel - gasoline / diesel, vehicle equipment can affect the size of the duty. In addition, customs determine which category a car falls under - for personal or commercial use, and if you import a “pie” like Renault Kangoo for your own needs, then you still need to know how to prove it to the inspector. Brokers will deal with all these issues quickly and in your favor.
