How to restore documents for a car and rights in case of loss, theft?

Drivers often carry all the documents for the car and their own in one bag, this is very convenient - all the documents are at hand. But at the same time, the loss or theft of this very borset entails very serious problems - a person is left without documents. Often you can see ads in newspapers or right on the entrance doors that, they say, a borset with documents has been lost, please return for a fee.

Perhaps there are good people who will return them to you, but you need to act quickly. We offer step-by-step instructions for recovering lost documents.

First of all, you need to file a complaint with the police about the loss of documents, they will give you a certificate with which you can go to the passport office to get a temporary identity card. Some “experts” suggest not to contact the police, because they still won’t find the documents, and time will be wasted. Perhaps this is so, but then your passport, VU, STS and PTS will be invalidated and intruders will not be able to use them.

A temporary certificate is issued immediately after application. You just need to remember to present:

• a certificate from the housing office that you really live at the specified address;
• a certificate from the police department;
• passport photos.

You will have to pay the state fee for making a duplicate of your passport - 500 rubles. If you do not contact the passport office within 30 days, then a fine of 1500-2500 rubles may be imposed.

Then, with this certificate, we need to go to the traffic police, where we explain the situation and we are sent for a medical examination to obtain a medical certificate. Having a medical certificate in hand, you can go to the MREO with a calm heart, where you will be issued a temporary driver's license and an application for making a duplicate will be accepted. For a temporary certificate, the fee will be 500 rubles, for a new VU - 800 rubles.

When you already have a temporary identity card, a temporary VU and a medical certificate, with all this you can go to the insurance company to get a duplicate of the OSAGO policy, you also need to learn the CASCO policy if the car was insured and under it.

Next, you need to restore the TCP and STS. If, for example, the car is a credit card, then the original PTS is in the bank, where they can give you a PTS for a while or make a certified copy. If there is a PTS - it's good, if not - it doesn't matter. We go to the traffic police department with all the documents, including a certificate from the police. For the replacement of the TCP, you will have to pay 500 rubles, STS - 300 rubles. If the car is old or the inspector has doubts, then you will need to bring the car to check the numbers.

One important point is that the police file a case on the loss of documents, and new documents for the car will be issued only after the police give you a certificate of closing the criminal case, and this may take several weeks. If you do not want to wait so long, then simply write on the application that the documents disappeared under unclear circumstances, and the fact of theft is completely excluded.

It takes up to two weeks to restore the TCP and STS, but this issue can be resolved faster if you know who to negotiate with. When you have TCP and STS on hand, you need to go to undergo MOT. Many different nuances arise at once, for example, if the numbers of the TCP or STS have changed, then you need to go back and make changes to the OSAGO and CASCO policies. If you were given duplicates, then at the inspection station you can get a duplicate of the MOT ticket, it will cost 300 rubles. If you have to go through the MOT again, then you will need to pay 690 rubles for the inspection and 300 for the form.

After obtaining a new driver's license, again, you need to make changes to insurance policies.

Of course, such a situation, when absolutely all documents are lost, is quite complicated, you will have to run a lot through all instances and pay all the fees.

You can’t use the car either until you have STS and PTS in your hands, certificates from the police only make it possible to get to the parking lot and they are only valid for a limited time, so you need to act quickly.

It is much easier to resolve all these issues if only a part of the documents, or just one of them, is lost. And so that this does not happen to you, we can only advise you to follow the documents, do not leave them in the car. Take with you only those that you really need:
