How to quickly and independently get rid of scratches on the side windows of a car for 80 rubles

Unpleasant traces that appear almost on the second day after buying a car frankly “hurt the eye” and cause discomfort, but they can be removed in just a few minutes. It is much more difficult to prevent them from appearing.

A tiny pebble or grain of sand can cause a long scratch on the side glass, which will not only spoil the appearance of the car, but will also be a constant reminder of the carelessness of the driver. Such a few people will like it, but it is almost impossible to protect the “door” glass from adversity.

Russian roads are dirty and dusty, so even a regular car wash will not prevent sand from getting under the rubber seals. Regular cleaning is also meaningless: a couple of turns and elastic bands are filled to the brim with particles of earth, glass and dirt. You can, of course, stick an armored film and change it regularly, but the price of the issue will quickly become a reason for refusal. So what to do?

Of course, polish. Glass, unlike plastic and varnish, allows you to do this regularly and requires not so much skill as a certain set of knowledge. Firstly, you only need to “smooth out” scratches with a hard nozzle. From the classic "sponge", which is used for work on paint and varnish, there will be no sense. And secondly, you need special polishes. Of course, they can be purchased in specialized stores: from 500 rubles for a “thimble”, which is enough for one evening of detailing, to a large can of professional paste, which will cost at least 2000 rubles. Not cheap, especially considering the purchase of additional circles.

However, there is a small but tangible secret here: all glass polishing pastes consist of cerium oxide, which is much cheaper in the form of a powder. So a whole bag - 200 grams, which is enough to polish all the windows of a car - will cost 76 rubles.

So, we generously wash the glass with running water, dilute the cerium oxide powder strictly according to the instructions and apply it on the glass. You need to polish “wet”, regularly adding water - the glass heats up quite strongly. For work, it is more convenient to use not a polishing machine, but a grinding machine - this way the process takes much less time. It is quite difficult to remove deep scratches, but small ones - like scuffs on the side windows - are a matter of 15 minutes. The secret of the work lies not so much in strength and dexterity, but in the gradual transition from one scratch to another. You should also regularly rinse the glass and evaluate the result.

Scratches on the side windows are no reason to go to the detailing shop. An evening of free time, a package of cerium oxide and a grinder - that's the whole secret of perfect windows. You can also polish the windshield, but it will take much more time, and a decent result is possible only on a high-quality "triplex": cheap and soft Chinese analogues will not withstand such processing, and can be very rubbed. It will definitely require several different fractions of cerium oxide and long hours of processing.
