The Petrol Ped channel has published a review of the Kia e-Niro 64 kWh from the point of view of a user of powerful internal combustion vehicles. Impressions? A fun machine for dancing and rosary, equipped with all the necessary elements of a modern comfortable vehicle. The charging network was much weaker.

Kia e-Niro - worth it or not?

On the Petrol Ped channel we can find reviews of a BMW M8, Ford Focus ST or Porsche GT2 RS. This time he got behind the wheel of a 64 kWh Kia e-Niro, which he had to cover 3,2 thousand kilometers in a week.

This information appears later in the video, but it's worth starting with it: he considers the Kia e-Niro (150 kW, 204 hp) alive, and even very alive in sport mode. He attributed this to a car with an internal combustion engine producing several hundred horsepower.

From the point of view of the average car user, it turns out that the e-Niro is also quite normal. It offers the possibility of comfortable travel over fairly long distances without recharging. According to Petrol Ped, that's about 400 kilometers, which is more than EPA tests suggest. Other observers also point out that the official cost of 385 kilometers may be slightly underestimated.

The biggest cons? Hard enough plastic in places and navigation that can't find the best charging points in terms of the current route.

He also didn't like the slightly orange headlights. Here, however, it's no surprise that in previous years the e-Niro only offered bulbs in the front and only from the (2020) model can LED bulbs be selected.

Jogo overall impression: impeccable, great for local driving... He could use it if he did not have to overcome, as we believe, thousands of kilometers in a matter of days.

Charging problems

The Kia e-Niro performed well while the charging network was down.

The charger was damaged, so with an almost discharged battery I had to move on to the next one. An inoperative charger has occurred. There was a place occupied by another car that could not be checked before. Generally: he was annoyed by the high fragmentation of the charging station operator market.

He had the best experience with a Shell resupply station, which did not require pre-registration, token or RFID card, but did allow payment with a payment card.

In his opinion, the whole mechanism of travel + charging was best solved in Tesla. They can calculate routes based on remaining mileage, display detailed information about Supercharger occupancy and do not require any payment cards - the chargers automatically recognize the car connected to them.
