Kia EV6, GT-Line TEST. 531 km and 504-528 WLTP units, but an experiment that cannot be repeated

Asian Petrolhead conducted a range test on the Kii EV6 with a fully charged battery. The car predicted that it would cover 475 kilometers and managed to cover 531 kilometers with a descent to 0. This is a good result, again slightly better than the WLTP procedure for the Kia EV6 in this configuration.

Kia EV6: real range of 531 km, but when driving in city and suburb it is quite slow

The temperature outside was 26-27 degrees Celsius, so we were dealing with the Polish equivalent of summer. There were three people in the cabin, no stable speed has been established, only a desire to adhere to the applicable limits has been declared... After passing the first 234,6 km at an average speed of 49,2 km / h, the consumption was 13,3 kWh / 100 km. Quite slow.

An interesting fact was the test, during which a small capsule coffee machine, kettle and microwave oven were used, connected to the charging port using a V2L adapter. All devices consumed only 1 kilometer of range, which corresponds to 0,16 kWh of energy. After the end of the experiment, a second red Kia EV6 was used to replenish energy in the first:

Driving experience and private choice: Model Y, Ioniq 5 ...

Kia EV6 seemed to be driving livelybut with a more comfortable suspension setup than, for example, the Tesla Model Y. Asian Petrolhead praised the exterior of the car, although he would have preferred the Model Y... His friend, in turn, relied on the Hyundai Ioniq 5. During the trip, he heard information, why the Kia EV6 has a shorter wheelbase than the Ioniq 5... The car's designers reportedly wanted the car to handle better (in preparation for the GT variant) and to look sportier.

After passing 378,1 km, the average speed increased to 53,9 km / h, in some frames it was seen that the movement was on faster roads. Average energy consumption at this distance increased to 14,1 kWh / 100 km. The last kilometers were in city traffic, which significantly increases the result (slower driving = less wear = more range), but when we recalculated the percentages, it turned out that the car managed to run less than it should.

In the end The Kia EV6 covered 531,3 km. with an average consumption of 13,7 kWh / 100 km and an average speed of 51,3 km / h. It should be assumed that the test was carried out in suburban-urban traffic and that this result should be expressed approximately in the following values (rounded to the nearest ten):

  • 450 kilometers in physical terms in mixed mode when the battery is discharged to 0,
  • 410 kilometers in physical terms in mixed mode with 10 percent battery discharge,
  • 340 kilometers in kind in mixed mode when driving in 80-> 5 percent mode,
  • 320 km in natural terms when driving on the highway "I try to keep 120 km / h" and discharge the battery to 0,
  • 290 kilometers in physical terms on the highway with a battery discharged to 10 percent,
  • 240 kilometers in physical terms on the highway while driving in the 80-> 5 percent mode [all data calculated via www.elektrowoz.pl].

Therefore, if we do not live on the highway (i.e. we have to get to it) and go on vacation off the highway, the vast majority of Poland (530 km) would be within reach, assuming a single charging stop lasting no more than 20 minutes.... One word of caution: shutdown MUST occur at an Ionity or other station that supports at least 200 kW of charging.

For comparison - although the above values should not be fully compared due to completely different conditions - Tesla Model Y in Bjorn Nyland's test it reached 493 km at 90 km / h and 359 km at 120 km / h. In both cases, the battery is discharged to 0. Thus, the Kia EV6 is slightly weaker than the Model Y.although it should be noted that the height of the car EV6 is between Model 3 and Model Y (1,45 - 1,55 - 1,62 m). Which says a lot about Tesla technology.

Worth seeing and listening to:

Note from the editors of www.elektrowoz.pl: the test may disappoint people who expected measurements at 90 and 120 km / h, as Nyland did. Therefore, we decided to transform the obtained values ourselves. The EV6 range worried us because it is slightly weaker than the Tesla, but we believe that You can make up for losses on the road with shorter charging stops.. The advantage is the lower price of the car and the fact that Kia has once again kept its word when it comes to the values calculated according to the WLTP procedure. Most cars reach usually 15 percent less than the catalog would suggest.
