LG to Cover General Motors Chevrolet Boltach Battery Replacement Costs

LG Energy Solution has agreed to cover the cost of replacing cells / modules / batteries in defective Chevrolet bolts, CNBC reported. The entire operation will cost USD 1,9 billion, which is equivalent to PLN 7,5 billion. This is not the best news for people who are just looking to buy electric vehicles.

LG will pay for the repair of Boltów / Amper-e

The news is not very good, as some of that amount comes from new lithium-ion cells. And if LG Energy Solution has to supply new elements for the 140 140 Bolts / Amper-e already produced, their availability in the new car market will decrease. It is difficult to say whether the manufacturer will decide to replace 13,6 complete batteries, although it is easy to calculate that an average of 53,8 thousand US dollars per one vehicle (battery + labor), i.e. the equivalent of XNUMX thousand PLN.

Of course, this news is very good for people who have already bought Chevrolet Bolts and Opel Ampera-e, as they mark the end of the fight between General Motors and LG.

CNBC announcement shows that problematic connections were created at two factories in South Korea and Michigan (USA)... So far, we've heard of the “two flaws,” but they were only meant to apply to plant cells in South Korea. However, we do not hear any reports of problems with cells produced near Wroclaw.

LG Energy Solution (formerly LG Chem) is currently one of the largest suppliers of lithium-ion cells for electric vehicles. The products of the South Korean manufacturer are used by Hyundai, Volkswagen, General Motors and Ford, as well as Tesla in China-made models 3 and Y.
