Mercedes C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series - Sports car

When is that Mercedes She entered adolescence, becoming grumpy and rebellious? I don't know, but it was probably the 63 C2008 sedan that turned Mercedes into BMW's number one enemy. Or maybe it happened before. But if the exact moment is in doubt, the result is undeniable. The guys from Affalterbach are in great shape and new C63 AMG Coupé Black Series should make BMW M think about its still undeniable role among Germans.

The C63 Black takes the already fully equipped C63 Coupé to the extreme with honed performance and muscular and aggressive styling reminiscent of the Lamborghini Silhouette. Admittedly, the optional rear spoiler and front flaps are pure exhibitionism, but other than that it's beautiful. If the team had turned the C63 into an endurance car, the end result would not have been much different from this version. But from an engine standpoint, the C63's endurance wouldn't be as good as this Black Series. Beyond Lubrication dry sump and a few other details, the Black Series has the same V8 M159 6.2 as the SLS. Power is increased to 517 hp and torque to 620 Nm thanks to new forged pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft.

I wheel arch Superbombs serve to mask the wider track (the C63 BS is 56mm wider at the front and 84mm wider at the rear). New springs Eibach and adjustable shock absorbers KW they work with standard tires or most Dunlop optional. The car we are testing is equipped with the latter, which allows the 0-100 to go down from 4,2 to 3,9 seconds. There are two inside Recaro body and leather steering wheel e Alcantara.

We're on a chain Laguna Seca. The Black Series is a very fast car, but even on short, straight California tracks, it doesn't feel as fast as the numbers show. I think it's the effect of the track, but also the the weight it certainly contributes. At 1.710 kg, the BS is 10 kg lighter than the C63, but 210 kg heavier than the M3 GTS, not to mention the featherweight GT3 RS.

But it also has 176 Nm more than its direct competitors, and at mid-range it is so efficient that it is difficult to push it beyond 5.500 rpm. Reactionsaccelerator they are almost always sharp, and the engine literally swallows the last 2.000 rpm in one gulp.

Thanks to its excellent front grip, the Black Series doesn't feel so heavy. IN power steering it has been calibrated to give it more weight, but as with the production version, it is easy to position the car how and where you want it to be, coping with understeer and oversteer with no problem. In slower corners, the BS struggles to find traction, while there is little lag in faster corners. understeer who won by opening the gas.

How natural for such a powerful machine, with differential With standard limited slip and 285 rear tires, you can make the rear wheels smoke like nothing on third, and even while steering in fourth.

The Black Series is not the best weapon in terms of efficiency or lap times. Unofficially, Mercedes is talking about 7 minutes and 45 seconds on the Ring, which seems right for a car that is on par with the M3 GTS, but significantly slower than the GT3 RS. On the other hand, the Black Series is much more comfortable than the Porsche.

Much of his traffic skills are borrowed from Automatic transmission with seven gears, not to mention the fact that, aside from the lowered suspension and exaggerated looks, it is just as comfortable for day-to-day use as the standard C63. But even in the fastest manual mode, the transmission lags behind the DCT BMW M3 GTS. On such a fizzy and aggressive car on the track, this is the weak link in the chain.

Session Recaro's pole position the body is low but perfect and the steering wheel is depth-adjustable. This instance hasAMG Performance Media system optional, real luxury. It can memorize the circuit diagram through the GPS navigator, providing real-time data and disconnects (the background of the display is even colored red or green to indicate the slowest or fastest time), and then allows you to download all the data at the end of the day.

The Laguna Seca has a lot of hard braking, and given the BS's weight, it's impressive how the standard 390mm front discs show no sign of fading after four laps. The Dunlops are busy, but after three laps at full throttle they need to cool off.

What sets the Black Series apart from all other contenders is character. It's not trying to pass as a DTM car - it's more of a muscle car. He counts the numbers on the track, but he knows how to have fun even at low speed, and this is an advantage that many rivals do not have. This is a car that can be safely driven every day, thanks also to the six damper settings. True it is spoiler optional is a bit exaggerated, and even if the downforce increases, I refuse to go round. Not to mention, it costs a lot.

But those who think about using the car on the track with a certain regularity cannot do without track pack with tires translucent and a differential radiator, as well as the AMG Performance Media system.

The price of the Black Series is 120.000 € 3. That's a lot for a car that lags behind the GT63 RS in driving pleasure, but on the other hand, the CXNUMX BS is different: it's more comfortable to use and even available with rear seats if you ever need it. It also exudes AMG character. Not bad, right?
