First scooter with ABS and ASR

The Beverly Sport Touring has won many fans for its uniqueness. In ten years they have sold over 300.000!! Improving what is already good is always the biggest challenge, which is why we looked forward to what the Italian engineers did. But the first miles on the new 350cc Beverly proved there was still room for improvement.

Besides the polished parts, this is the first scooter with ABS and ASR systems for maximum safety. The sensor detects loss of traction when the rear wheel is idling at minimum and then reduces engine power to prevent spin. ASR can also be easily turned off. ABS works through sensors on both wheels; at the moment when the sensor detects that the wheel is blocked through the hydraulic system, the servo regulator redistributes the braking force or doses it to the maximum possible limit.

Engine: Why 350 cc?

This model is the first in the series to be equipped with a new engine. In terms of performance, it is comparable to engines with a volume of 400 cubic meters, but in terms of its size and emissions, it is fully compatible with engines of smaller size, for example, a volume of 300 cubic meters. The new single-cylinder four-stroke engine with direct fuel injection, a new multi-plate wet clutch and an updated CVT transmission deliver 24,5 kW (33,3 PS) at 8.250 rpm and 32,2 Nm of torque at 6.250 rpm. min. ... Thus, maintenance costs remain at or below 300. Thus, the service interval will be required when 20.000 km covered or once a year. Fuel consumption is also lower - the scooter should have up to 330 kilometers of autonomy with a full tank of fuel. The engine will completely replace the 400 and 500 cubic feet engine and will be installed in almost all models of their large scooters.

Improved driving performance.

But technique was not the only area of improvement. The scooter now rides better thanks to a redesigned frame and suspension. Two open jet helmets or one foldable integrated helmet pass under the seat, and some small items and gloves can be stored in the space in front of the knees.

Of course, we cannot miss the famous unique Italian design. It continues a tradition that is a blend of elegance and sportiness. Chrome has been recalled, now the first word for matte and matte details. In 2012, you will be able to choose one of five color combinations to suit every taste.

In Pontedera, Italy, where Piaggio's headquarters, factory and museum are located, we had the unique opportunity to test the Piaggio Beverly 350. With beautiful scenery, great weather and a fantastic scooter, the test was a true balm for the senses. At Piaggio, they hit it off perfectly, the scooter is almost a new product. It literally shoots out of place, not the least bit lazy compared to the 400cc predecessor of the previous generation and shape.

I highly recommend ABS and ASR because they work great and give you a sense of security. The new Beverly is extremely comfortable to operate and lightweight, which I cannot fully claim compared to its predecessor, and it sets new standards in the mid-size scooter world. The driving position has become more comfortable, not tiring and there is no lack of legroom. Pulls sovereignly up to approx. 100 km / h, then slowly accumulates to 130 km / h, where it goes without problems. The arrow then slowly picks up speed to 150 km / h, which is the maximum speed it can handle with one passenger.

While the scooter is designed for more than urban use, it also works great on rural roads and can be a good alternative for Sunday rides with your better half. For a good price, I believe it will mix the competition as it is one of the best Piaggis overall.
