Nissan Leaf 2 / TEST: thought out, thought out, does not cause desire [Yalopnik]

Jalopnik, along with a group of other American journalists, had the opportunity to test drive the new Nissan Leaf. He described the car as a car to be bought, not a heart. So no emotion.

Yalopnik echoes what Elektrek described: Nissan designed the Leaf as a mid-range car. It no longer has the 160 kilometers (100 miles) range of its competitors, but neither does it have 350-380 kilometers like the Tesla Model 3 or Chevrolet Bolt:

Nissan Leaf 2, medium car. On the horizontal axis is the mileage, on the vertical axis is the price of the car in the base variant (c) Nissan USA.

According to Jalopnik reporters, the new Nissan Leaf now looks like any other Nissan on the street. In their opinion, the result is normal, but now the car will get lost in the crowd of other cars.

The car will be available in the US in S, SV and SL variants.

Interior and economy: large battery - a compromise with the rest

The trunk, interior and user interface are defined similarly: everything is fine, thoughtfully thought out, without much frills. The only strange element in the interior is the drive mode switch (formerly: the gear lever). The journalist also noted a small, but very significant savings: only one USB port for charging appeared on the front panel..

It turns out that this is the result of economic calculation - installing a 40 kWh battery caused cuts in other parts of the car. Therefore, the quality of the materials is good, but cannot be called "excellent".

Drive? Emotionless

The trip also did not cause any special emotions from the Jalopnik representative. However, he stressed that buyers of the new Nissan certainly don't expect more.

Level 2 autonomous driving at the lowest price on the market has been recognized as a desirable vehicle feature. However, the journalist found that the need to keep his hands on the wheel and concentrate on the road does not help much with the rest. Rather, it worries him.

Charging: 30 minutes CHAdeMO +142 km

According to Jalopnik – probably from Nissan – a 30-minute CHAdeMO charge increases range by 142 kilometers. When charging from a 16 amp wall outlet at home, it takes 12 hours to charge the battery.
