The new 2023 Kia Niro will debut with three different variants: hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric.

The 2023 Kia Niro has arrived to show off its power and sophistication in 3 different flavors: EV, PHEV and HEV. The 50 Niro models, which are sold in all 2023 states, will be available for purchase at any Kia retail store starting in the summer of 2022.

The all-new 2023 Kia Niro made its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show. The next generation Niro has been designed from the ground up to meet and exceed the expectations of environmentally conscious consumers. With vibrant style and a commitment to sustainability and connectivity throughout.

Appearance created by nature

Inside and out, the Niro 2023 features a bold design inspired by the Uniting Opposites philosophy, which combines inspiration from nature with aerodynamic sophistication. The 2023 Niro's exterior embodies the sophisticated and adventurous sense of purpose strongly influenced by the 2019 HabaNiro concept. Its striking Daytime Running Lights (DRL) frame the signature tiger-nosed grille that has evolved along with Kia's new corporate identity.

At the rear, boomerang-shaped LED taillights combine with a simple surface treatment for a clean and streamlined style, while a heartbeat-shaped rear reflector, skid plate trim for solidity and a lower bumper enhance the design of the front end.

The Niro HEV and Niro PHEV can be distinguished by the black trim on the doors and wheel arches, while the Niro EV features a steel gray or black exterior finish, depending on body color.

The side profile of the 2023 Kia Niro is accentuated by very distinctively shaped aero blades that also promote airflow from below. The Aero Blade can be painted in body color or a variety of contrasting colors. Further enhancing the profile of the Niro HEV and Niro PHEV are optional 18-inch HabaNiro-style wheels.

Interior design with a vision for the future

Touches of luxury abound in the Niro 2023's cabin, with sustainability an integral part of the cabin's materiality. The interior of the Niro EV is made up of animal-free textiles, including high-quality seats for touch points throughout the cabin. The ceiling is made from recycled wallpaper, which is 56% recycled PET fibers.

Slim modern seating with integrated perches enhances spaciousness and is covered in high quality bio-polyurethane and tencel made from eucalyptus leaves. BTX-free paint, free of benzene, toluene and xylene isomers, is used on door panels to minimize environmental impact and reduce waste.

active sound design

Active Sound Design allows the rider to digitally enhance the Niro's engine and engine sound; an eight-speaker premium Harman/Kardon audio system is optional. The front seats, which are optionally heated and ventilated, have standard USB ports on the side and additional memory seat positions on some variants.

Automotive technology comes to the fore

Cutting-edge automotive technology shows up in the new Kia Niro in a myriad of ways. The accessible head-up display (HUD) projects directions, active safety warnings, vehicle speed and current infotainment information directly into the driver's field of vision. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless capabilities are standard, and a cordless phone charger is optional.

The 2023 Niro EV is available with the same Onboard Vehicle Charging Alternator (V2L) functionality first introduced in the EV6.

Three available transmission configurations

The new Kia Niro will arrive in the United States in three different powertrain configurations: the Niro HEV hybrid, the Niro PHEV plug-in hybrid, and the all-electric Niro EV. All Niro models are front-wheel drive, giving you an advantage in inclement weather. A 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard on the HEV and PHEV.

Niro HEV

It is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a 32kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor for an overall maximum output of 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft. fumes Advanced cooling, friction and combustion technologies maximize fuel efficiency, and the Niro HEV returns a target of 53 mpg combined and an estimated range of 588 miles.

PHEV stainless steel

It combines a 1.6-liter engine with a 62kW electric motor for a total system output of 180hp. and 195 lb-ft. Vapors When connected to a level 2 charger, the Niro PHEV can charge its 11.1 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery in less than three hours. A fully charged, all-electric Niro PHEV (AER) range is rated at 33 miles when equipped with 16-inch wheels, 25% more than the model it replaces.

Niro E.V.

The all-electric drive is powered by a 64.8 kWh battery and a 150 horsepower 201 kW motor with DC fast charging as standard. Connected to a level 3 fast charger, the Niro EV can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 45 minutes with a maximum charging power of 85kW. The 11 kW on-board charger also helps charge the Niro EV in less than seven hours on a Tier 2 charger. The Niro EV has a target AER of 253 miles. An additional heat pump and battery heater help maintain range in low temperatures.

Three available driving modes and regenerative braking

In addition to Sport and Eco driving modes, the new Kia Niro has a Green Zone driving mode that automatically puts the Niro HEV and Niro PHEV into EV driving mode in residential areas, nearby schools and hospitals. Niro uses power automatically based on navigation signals and driving history data, and recognizes favorite places such as home and office in the navigation system.

Intelligent regenerative braking allows you to use different levels of regeneration to easily slow down the car and restore kinetic energy to increase range. The system can calculate the amount of regeneration needed using radar information and road grade information, and can allow all Niro models to get the maximum amount of power from their brakes, bringing the car to a smooth stop.
