The brand belongs to the Korean brand GS Caltex Corporation and currently occupies a stable position in the market, including the domestic one. The fact that there are inexpensive brands that are suitable for the most common inexpensive foreign cars that are popular in our country adds to their popularity. The same automakers use Kixx oil to fill the engines of new cars, among them: KIA, Daewoo and Hyundai, he even cooperates with such a giant as Volvo.

The range includes motor oils, gear oils, lubricants for other components and assemblies, synthetic, semi-synthetic and mineral. In addition to the production of lubricants, the company is engaged in oil production and refining, energy conservation issues. The production uses proprietary synthetic VHVI technology, which allows you to control the viscosity of the composition. To clean the base, the hydrocracking method is used: mineral oil receives qualities that are as close as possible to synthetic ones, and the finished product has a low selling price. The range also includes premium pins made entirely from synthetic components.

Kixx oils meet world standards and are suitable for almost all engines, old and new design. It is created by hydrocracking, that is, it is equated to synthetics. In all respects, the oil is average, but at the same time it has many advantages and is suitable for many engines. Can be used in old and new engines of cars, sports cars, ATVs and motorcycles. Suitable for high-tech internal combustion engines, double overhead camshafts, turbine, electronic injection, variable valve timing. Works great with HBO.

The manufacturer claims that the oil can be used in any conditions and climatic zones, but according to test results, the low-temperature characteristics of the oil are at an average level. We will return to this topic in more detail below, but the properties of the oil at high temperatures are good, it is suitable for high and very high loads, in such conditions it reveals its qualities.

The oil does not have auto company approvals, only API approval, but the last one is SN Plus, so it can be poured into any engine that is suitable for this API approval and viscosity, if you are not confused by the lack of approvals from car care for your car and ACEA approval.

Test results

According to the results of an independent test, we see the following. The alkalinity of the oil is at an average level, that is, it will wash off, but is not suitable for long drain intervals - a maximum of 7 thousand kilometers. This amount is not enough to eliminate the existing chronic pollution.

Well, the oil is very thick, it does not exceed the SAE J300 standard, but you should not expect savings from it. This makes the oil suitable for burn-prone engines. The minus of oil follows from high viscosity: low pour point. This does not justify the properties declared by the manufacturer for use in any climatic zone, rather suitable for central Russia, but not beyond its borders. The manufacturer himself indicates a freezing temperature of -42 degrees, while the test showed -36 degrees. Perhaps this is just a flaw of one of the parties, but the fact remains.

It is a very clean oil and has very little ash and sulfur compared to the competition. This confirms the declared hydrocracking base, and this base is very well cleaned, definitely without mineral water admixture. That is, the oil will not leave deposits on the internal parts of the engine. The additive package is very modest, the friction modifier was not detected, it is possible that it is organic and was not determined by the laboratory. Otherwise, the oil would not be approved by the latest API standard.

Not only fresh oil was tested, but also a test for the resource of the product. The lubricant was tested on a 2007 Chevrolet Lacetti engine, drove 15 km on it and showed excellent results in mountain analyzes. Kinematic viscosity at 000 degrees decreased by only 100% at a rate of up to 20,7%. And even the alkaline number did not fall as significantly as one might expect, a little less than 50 times. In general, the oil in the exercise turned out to be very good, but I still do not advise riding it for more than 2 km.

Verdict

The quality of the oil seems to be quite average, but it has significant advantages. It has a high viscosity, that is, it will protect the engine well under large and even very large loads, little is spent on waste. Ideal for domestic vehicles operated under heavy load, for turbocharged engines, exhaust gas treatment systems, domestic LPG. It does not officially have ACEA approval, but in terms of properties it resembles category A3 and even C3. The oil is quite peculiar, I would even say extraordinary, but its price is also low, so you should try to top it up if it suits your engine in terms of its characteristics and tolerance.

How to distinguish a fake

Oil is sold in cans of 4 liters and plastic containers of 1 liter. It is more difficult and expensive to counterfeit banks, but counterfeit products can still be produced. In general, at the moment there were no fake oils on sale. It is fresh and cheap enough not to be a target for counterfeiters. There are several signs by which it can be identified:

  1. The canister is laser engraved with the batch number and production date and can be placed on the bottom of the canister or on the top surface. Fakes often do not have any engraving.
  2. The cover is plastic, there is a protective seal, it is difficult to fake it.
  3. The barcode must be glued to the surface, glued evenly, without bevels, the numbers are not smeared.
  4. Information about the manufacturer is applied to the container after the word Manufactured. The address and phone number are indicated here, on fakes this is usually not.

For plastic containers, the following characteristics are relevant:

  1. Plastic quality, no smell.
  2. The cap is the same color as the bottle, tone on tone. It closes with a welded ring, after opening it comes off the cover and is no longer worn back.
  3. There is a protective foil under the cap, there are numbers or the GS Caltex Corp logo on it. If you cut the foil and turn it over, then on the reverse side of the letter PE. Fakes are often released without foil and inscriptions.
  4. The label is not glued, but welded, it cannot be caught by a thin object, and it can be easily removed.

Not so long ago, the company renamed plastic packaging. The color of the label has changed from yellow to green. Bottle size changed from 225mm x 445mm x 335mm (0,034 cu m) to 240mm x 417mm x 365mm.
