Why you should always have cheap superglue and baking soda in your car

How, with the help of simple superglue and baking soda, to eliminate a number of annoying technical problems that can dramatically ruin life on a long journey, the AvtoVzglyad portal found out.

In the holiday season, many embark on long-distance road trips. Moreover, people often tend to move away from civilization - to take a break from the “noise of big cities”, etc. Unity with nature, as a rule, means bad roads, lack of suitable spare parts in case of a breakdown, as well as the presence of a “car service”, employees who have only the skills of resuscitation of tractors, "UAZ" and "Lada".

On the road with a modern car, various technical troubles can happen. A whole list of them is associated with breakdowns of certain plastic parts. For example, in an unexpected hole, you can split the "skirt" of the bumper. Or an old foreign car will not cope with the heat and the tank of the engine cooling system will crack. In a large city, such breakdowns are eliminated quickly and easily. On the pastoral, they can turn into a serious problem. With a damaged bumper, you can’t go far without the split part finally falling off on the next bump or due to the pressure of the incoming air. With antifreeze flowing out of the tank, you can’t even train, and there’s simply nowhere to buy a new one.

Just in case of dealing with the consequences of the excesses described above, you need to keep in mind the most common cyanoacrylate superglue and banal baking soda, or any other fine powder.

It is unlikely that anyone would think of buying expensive drugs for plastic repair in advance, and superglue and soda can be at hand in any wilderness.

So, let's say our bumper burst. The piece did not break off completely, but the crack is long enough that it looks like it will fall off completely. Our task is to securely fix the crack so that the fragment "survives", at least until the moment of returning to civilization. First of all, we clean the back side of the bumper from the dirt in the area of the crack. If possible, you can also degrease it by wiping it, for example, with a cloth soaked in gasoline. Next, we contrive and smear the crack and plastic along it with superglue. Without wasting time, sprinkle this area with soda in such a layer that the glue completely saturates the powder. We give the composition to harden slightly and again smear-drip with cyanoacrylate and pour a new layer of soda on it.

Thus, we gradually form a “seam” of any size and configuration we need. Instead of soda, you can also use a strip of some fabric, preferably synthetic. We put it on the area around the crack smeared with glue, press it lightly and smear glue on top again so that the matter is completely saturated with it. For reliability (tightness), it makes sense to lay 2-3-5 layers of fabric one on top of the other in this way. Similarly, you can repair a crack in any plastic tank.
