Often, owners of German-made cars are faced with the need to replace the fuses for the cigarette lighter or, for example, the dipped beam. But they get into trouble because not everyone is familiar with the location of the fuses and the diagram of these blocks. Therefore, in this article we will tell our readers the basic information about it.
Where is the fuse box?
Consider in order the location of fuse boxes (BP) and circuit elements for each model of automatic line B.
For models B3 and B4
On the Passat B3 and B4 car models, the main fuse box, in fact the only one, is located in the passenger compartment.
We also note here: Depending on the modification or additional equipment, additional devices can be installed on your vehicle, but this depends solely on the owners of the car.
In production, only one unit is mounted on the B3, and its location is in the cab. Here are the elements responsible for the entire package, from the cigarette lighter to the fog lights.
Notably, this power source on the B3 and B4 models is located at the bottom of the console panel, in front of the driver's seat. More details can be seen in the photo.
To access it is necessary to remove the shelf from the lower front of the torpedo. On newer machines, it can be accessed by removing the cover.
The main elements of the B3 fuse box are located directly below the relay.
It should also be noted that all PPs (fuses) are marked, and on the back of the cover a connection diagram is marked with the use of all components. It should also be added that some B3 car models have additional software located under the main one.
For grades B5
On these VW Passat models, the manufacturer decided to install two fuse boxes.
The main power supply unit, which contains the elements responsible for most of the equipment (cigarette lighter, headlights, heaters, stoves, etc.), is located inside the car.
Specifically, it is located on the extreme left side of the dashboard, that is, access to it is possible, as can be seen in the photo, only with the driver's door open.
Surely you will be interested to know what hardware the software of this device is responsible for. Especially for you, the specialist of our resource has compiled the corresponding table.
This is for the main power supply. However, in addition to this fuse box, VW Passat B5 cars are equipped with another device that contains only relays.
This small device is located in the center of the dashboard, behind a protective cover under the dashboard, specifically on the passenger side.
Below is a detailed diagram of the device and a description of the purposes for which the software is responsible.
It should also be added that some VW vehicles equipped with a large number of different instruments and equipment may have an additional power supply.
for VW B6 and B7
In total, 6 different power supplies are installed on the Volkswagen B7 and B9, the purpose of which is to ensure the normal operation of all equipment. To begin with, we will give the layout of these components themselves, after which we will provide all the tables and a description of the elements.
- Layout of all PSUs in VW B6 and B7 Purpose of all devices in these car models PSU A in Volkswagen B6 and B7 Which elements are operable by PSU A in Volkswagen B6 and B7
- As for block #2:
- Power supply marked C:
- Power supply labeled D:
- Regarding the device in the engine compartment:
- The relays are located on the left side under the torpedo:
- And the last - the details of supplying voltage to the car system:
Removal and Replacement Instructions
In principle, there is nothing complicated about this. Even a novice and inexperienced motorist can carry out such a process on their own.
So what is the replacement process:
- First of all, you need to disconnect the battery, since all work must be done in the absence of voltage on the power supply.
- So, considering what equipment you have stopped working and having read the instruction manual, as well as the material that we provide you, you begin to look for a problem. If your car has one power supply, then the problem is much easier to solve, but if there are several of them, as is the case with B6 or B7, then you will have to sweat a little. But there is nothing to worry about, since any detail is searched for without problems, especially if such useful material is at hand.
- Having found a burnt component, it must be dismantled. This is also done without much difficulty, with tweezers or hands. The defective component is replaced with a new one, the cover is closed and the battery is turned on.
Recommendations for use
As you can see, there is nothing difficult to replace - here are some practical recommendations that will help increase the life of the power supply service in your car:
- The installation of the software must be carried out strictly in accordance with their classifications, that is, the marking must be identical. In the event that the PP quickly fails, the reason is most likely in the wiring or in the device itself.
- In no case do not use homemade jumpers, as this may adversely affect the operation of the PSU as a whole.
- We recommend that you always have a set of spare parts with different brands in your car.
