The most economical crossovers - in terms of fuel consumption, price, service

Crossovers are more popular than ever. This type of car feels great both on narrow city streets and on light off-road, and if you purchase a crossover with Full-Time all-wheel drive, or at least Part-Time, then you can compete with our domestic SUVs - Niva or UAZ-Patriot .

It's no secret that a more powerful crossover engine requires more fuel. The increased fuel consumption is also affected by all-wheel drive and a heavy body. However, manufacturers are aware that SUVs are purchased mainly for driving on well-maintained roads, and therefore today you can find all-wheel drive crossover models that are not very far ahead of compact hatchbacks and B-class sedans in terms of fuel consumption.

Here is a list of the most economical crossovers. Although it is worth noting that the concept of “car economy” implies not only low fuel consumption.

The most economical crossovers - in terms of fuel consumption, price, service

A truly economical car has the following characteristics:

  • more or less affordable cost;
  • reliability - a reliable car requires less maintenance and minor in-line repairs;
  • not too expensive maintenance - for some cars, spare parts have to be ordered from the manufacturer and they are not very cheap;
  • low fuel consumption;
  • unpretentiousness.

Of course, we are unlikely to find cars that would meet all these requirements, but it is good that manufacturers are striving for this.

Rating of the most economical crossovers

So, according to the results of many surveys and tests, one of the most economical crossovers for 2014 is Toyota Urban Cruiser. Already from the name it is clear that this car can be attributed to pseudo-crossovers - with a clearance of 165 millimeters You don't really travel off-road.

The “Urban Rider,” as the name translates, is nevertheless equipped with all-wheel drive and is considered a compact SUV – the Mini MPV.

Consumption varies depending on the engine and transmission type. In the extra-urban cycle, the Urban Cruiser consumes only 4,4 liters of AI-95, in the city it will take about 5,8 liters. Agree that not every sedan can boast of such efficiency. The cost of a new car is also quite lifting - from 700 thousand rubles.

Following the “urban rider” from Japan is Fiat Sedici Multijet, which in the combined cycle requires only 5,1 liters of diesel fuel. It is worth saying that Fiat Sedici was developed jointly with specialists from Suzuki.

Suzuki SX4 is built on the same platform as Fiat.

Sedici - Italian for "sixteen", the car also has all-wheel drive. Before us is a full-fledged SUV, with ground clearance 190 mm. A five-seater crossover equipped with a 1.9- or 2-liter diesel engine produces 120 horsepower, accelerates to hundreds in 11 seconds, and the speedometer needle reaches a maximum mark of 180 kilometers per hour.

By purchasing such a car for 700 thousand or more rubles, you will not spend much on fuel - 6,4 liters in the city, 4,4 on the highway, 5,1 in the combined cycle. The only pity is that at the moment the new “sixteenths” are not for sale in the salons.

Prices for cars with mileage in 2008 start at 450 thousand.

In third place is a crossover from BMW, which cannot be called economical in terms of cost - 1,9 million rubles. BMW X3 xDrive 20d - this all-wheel drive urban crossover with a two-liter diesel engine breaks all stereotypes about BMW - it needs only 6,7 liters of diesel fuel in the city, 5 liters on the highway.

Despite such modest appetites, the car has very decent driving characteristics: 212 kilometers of maximum speed, 184 horsepower, 8,5 seconds of acceleration to hundreds. The spacious interior can easily accommodate 5 people, the ground clearance of 215 millimeters allows you to safely ride on curbs and on various irregularities, including artificial ones.

The next most economical crossover is from Land Rover - Range Rover Evoque 2.2 TD4. This is, again, an all-wheel drive crossover with a diesel turbo engine, which requires 6,9 liters in the city and 5,2 in the country.

Prices, however, start at two million rubles.

It is clear that for that kind of money you get the best English quality: a six-speed automatic / manual transmission, Full-Time all-wheel drive, a powerful 150 horsepower engine, a top speed of 200 kilometers, acceleration to a hundred - 10/8 seconds (automatic / manual). The car looks great both in the city and off-road, since with a ground clearance of 215 millimeters you don’t have to try to go around every hole and bump.

Got on the list of the most economical crossovers and the younger brother of the BMW X3 - BMW X1 xDrive 18d. The five-door all-wheel drive urban crossover takes 6,7 liters in the city and 5,1 out of town. Such an expense will be with a manual transmission, with an automatic transmission it is higher - 7,7 / 5,4, respectively.

The cost is also not the lowest - from 1,5 million rubles. But these cars are worth the money. You can accelerate to hundreds on the BMW X1 in 9,6 seconds, and this is taking into account the fact that the total curb weight of the car reaches two tons. For a 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, 148 horsepower is enough to accelerate this car to 200 kilometers per hour.

This is the top five most economical all-wheel drive crossovers. As you can see, this includes models of both budget and Premium classes.

The top ten also included:

  • Hyundai iX35 2.0 CRDi - 5,8 liters of diesel per hundred kilometers in the combined cycle;
  • KIA Sportage 2.0 DRDi - also 5,8 liters of diesel fuel;
  • Mitsubishi ASX DiD - 5,8 liters of DT;
  • Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDi - 6,1 liters of DT;
  • Lexus RX450h — 6,4L/100km.

When compiling this rating, only all-wheel drive configurations were taken into account, and most of the cars are diesel.

It is because of their efficiency that diesel engines have earned great respect from European and American consumers. We hope that over time they will become just as popular in Russia.
