On the CarsElektryczne.org forum the user jas_pik picked up an interesting thread. He presented a picture found on the Internet showing the differences in air resistance with different use of the space in front of the rear bumper. The information is especially important for owners of older electric cars, where every kilometer of range is at a premium.

The graph presented by the forum user jas_pik compares the standard solution with the modified versions. The classic variant is version Ain which the air swirls in the space between the batteries and the rear of the car - thus increasing air resistance.

W variant B, in the free space there is an additional trunk or simply an enclosure / box that closes the free space. Air resistance is reduced by about 10 percent, and the air swirls only under the rear bumper - which is also slightly different in shape:

The most interesting is XT variant. The additional luggage compartment located in it and the enlarged rear bumper allow the air to flow freely under the floor of the car. Drop in air resistance? 12 percent over the original version, i.e. variant A. and 2 percent compared to variant B.

How else to extend the range of an electric car?

Jas_pik also provides a number of tips that allow you to increase the ranges of electric cars. They include the following tips:

increasing tire pressure to the maximum,
wrapping the chassis with a flat plate,
sticking openings in the bodywork,
replacement of gear oil with a better one, with a lower viscosity,
replacement of grease in bearings or the bearings themselves,
full diagnostics of the brake system,
modification of the nose (front) of the car,
and even unscrewing the mirrors (prohibited by law!).
