Cell Phones and Texting: Distracted Driving Laws in Montana

Montana defines distracted driving as texting, talking on the phone, and anything else that distracts you from the road. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of accidents in Montana, but there are no laws in the state that prohibit mobile phone use, including texting. Some cities across the state have introduced their own bans and laws on distracted driving.

Cities and their mobile phone and texting laws

  • Billings: Drivers at Billings are not allowed to use portable phones or text messages.

  • bozeman: Drivers in Bozeman are prohibited from texting or using portable phones.

  • Butte-Silver Bow и Anaconda-Deer Lodge: Drivers at Butte-Silver Bow and Anaconda-Deer Lodge are not allowed to use mobile phones.

  • Columbia Falls: Drivers in Columbia Falls are not allowed to text or use cell phones.
