Car Comparison: Nissan Leaf (2018) vs. VW e-Golf vs. Renault Zoe – Which Should You Buy? [What car]

What Car compared three electric vehicles: Nissan Leaf (2018), Renault Zoe and VW e-Golf. Among other things, the ranges, equipment, driving experience and interior space were checked. The electric Nissan Leaf (2018) is the winner.

The Nissan Leaf combines an affordable price with a wide range and many features (including safety). The second place in the ranking is taken by the VW e-Golf, followed by the cheapest, smallest and most poorly equipped Renault Zoe.

Trip

Of all three vehicles, driving comfort was rated the best among VW's electric vehicles. All thanks to precise handling and good suspension. The Leaf also enjoyed a good reputation, while the Renault Zoe had average drive. The car brought bumps in the road into the cabin that were not even felt in the e-Golf. Its advantage was a good grip.

range

The YouTubers tested the range of cars on the test track during mixed driving, with temperatures of 3-5 degrees, lights on and air conditioning set to 21 degrees - and therefore in conditions consistent with the autumn-winter aura in Poland.

Here are the machine results:

  • Renault Zoe - 217 kilometers from about 255 under optimal conditions (85,1%)
  • Nissan Leaf - 174 kilometers out of 243 in optimal conditions (71,6%)
  • VW e-Golf - 150 kilometers out of 201 in optimal conditions (74,6%).

Thus, the Renault Zoe was the best, which allows us to believe that we are dealing with a variant of the R90 with a Renault engine that is slower but more efficient than the Q90.

interior

The interior of the VW e-Golf was recognized as the best for its wide range of settings (steering wheel adjustment, seat adjustment) and good quality materials. The Nissan Leaf, with only one-plane steering wheel adjustment and a display that was difficult to read in bright sunlight, was a little weaker in comparison. The weakest was the Renault Zoe, in which the steering wheel gave the impression of a bus driver - however, they praised the logic and ease of use of the menu.

The Renault Zoe was losing for another reason: it was a car from a lower segment (B) than the other two competitors (C), so it offered less space in the front, rear and trunk. However, the testers added that none of the drivers complained about the amount of space in the car.
