The new Suzuki Swift Sport has a turbocharged engine and is more comfortable, but also a lot of fun.

Drive Suzuki Swift Sport it's like plunging into the past, right in the 90s. Not because it is outdated or not very technologically advanced, but on the contrary: it is convenient, well equipped, quiet and, moreover, consumes little. No, it's a 90s comeback because it manages to entertain and engage despite its modest power. Its competitors today have at least 200 hp. (Renault Clio RS, Ford Fiesta ST and Peugeot 208); but Quick he doesn't want to impress with the numbers on the card, he just wants to win you over with his temperament.

The first (good) news is that the smaller swift has less dry weight. 1000 kg. Secondly, it lost its 1.6bhp 136-liter naturally aspirated engine. and received 1.4 turbo with 140 hp, more elastic and full in every mode. The naturally aspirated engine certainly had its own charm (as well as having 1.000 bonus rounds ahead of the limiter), but the turbo torque is really impressive on such a light car.

SPORTS WITHOUT DISCLAIMER

Outside Suzuki Swift Sport seems more modern and enjoyable. Always small (this is the smallest of the small cars), but also much sexier than before. Inside, there is only hard plastic and details that are not very pleasing to the eye. The back space is also a bit cramped, but 265-liter trunk that's good, but certainly not at the top of the segment. But the Swift Sport has other arrows to its advantage.

It is more comfortable and mature in the city and on the highway. The driver's position is odd and tall, and if you are six feet like me, you have to sacrifice leg position in favor of sufficient headroom, or vice versa. In addition, the new Suzuki Swift Sport softer shock absorbers than the previous one, it is better soundproofed and equipped. 1.4 turbo Boosterjet torque allows you to travel in at 60 km / h and to resume the speed without problems, thus the consumption is really low (i 18 km / l is feasible).

It is ideal for those who want to have fun without spending a lot of money on road tax and gas, and is also great as a companion for every day. But here's the worry: Will it be better even when you pick up the pace?

HAVE FUN WITH THE LITTLE

A few raindrops are still falling, but my favorite road is clear and there is great light. Before squeezing Suzuki Swift Sport As a tortured spy, I try to pay attention to the details and information that he is trying to convey to me. The accelerator pedal does not have that annoying full-scale "click" of cars with automatic transmission, there are no stupid driving modes to "confuse" the car and there is a wonderful manual exchange on March 6 with accurate and fast transplants. Il sound instead, it is shy and boring: the metallic sound of the pistons is stronger than the sound of the exhaust; but the Suzuki Swift is not as attractive as the 500 Abarth, the Japanese got down to business right away.

In a narrow mountain mix, he finds a fast but not frantic pace: the front is precise and light, and the rear, even if softer and stiffer than the previous generation, helps to smoothly complete the trajectory. On the wet road it is strong and safe, and on dry it can be moved even if it is really difficult to start if it is not you.

There is no limited slip differentialso (at least on a wet road) you should stroking the gas in first gears to avoid crushing the inner tire. As I said, everything is like in the compact 90s. She is really funny: she is sincere, agile, light and touches with the speed with which she can entertain us, but not frighten us.

The interior trim is softer than the old Swift and that certainly makes it easier and more intuitive... However, it hasn't softened to the point of annoying the most discerning drivers: a little roll, but a little pitch, so you can brake confidently without seeing the nose, which digs asphalt, and the rear, which heaves like a catapult. It feels like the car weighs a tiny ton, especially if you force it into turns.

Lo steering That's not a lot old school: it is not very straight and in the center is a little empty, but when the car tilts, it tells your palms what is happening in front of it.

This is a fun analogue toy car that can drive fast without making you sweat. This is the Mazda MX-5 among compact sports cars. It has no real competitors, and despite some flaws, I consider it a breath of fresh air.

Finally we come to price: The Suzuki Swift Sport costs 21.190 euro, 2-3 thousand euros less than competitors. Of course, it is less powerful, but very well equipped; but above all, this applies to another concept of sport, simpler and more direct. And simplicity is less and less common these days.
