Maintenance and care of the Vee unit
Check for accuracy | |
Before using the wedge block, check its accuracy. Constant use with the same cylindrical blanks will likely affect the sides of the V-channel. Also, if the block is rusted, the four sides and two ends of the tool may no longer be truly parallel or perpendicular to each other.
Inspect and feel for any dents, scratches, or burrs that may affect the block's ability to hold securely in a vise.
If you notice that your V-block is inaccurate, you will need to re-sand the V-channel surfaces until they are smooth. This will improve the accuracy of the instrument.
Controllability | |
V-blocks are very heavy and have sharp corners, so they must be handled with care.
Cleaning | |
Before use, you must clean the prismatic blocks of any unwanted material that could affect their accuracy.
Storage | |
Most V-Blocks come with a protective storage case that you should keep your tool in when not in use. If your V-block does not come with a storage case, you should store it in a cool and dry place to protect it from moisture which can cause rust. |
