Now it's the Nissan Z, which is being delayed until the summer due to a shortage of chips.

Bad news for fans of the 2023 Nissan Z, namely that the sports model is delayed by at least another month due to a shortage of chips. Nissan has indicated that the Z could arrive in July, although that hasn't been determined either.

After years of waiting for something, anything, in terms of Nissan lineup updates, we got exactly what we wanted. 400 horsepower, manual transmission and absolutely incredible retro style. But, they say, good things come to those who wait, and maybe that applies to Z now, because fans who want one of these models will have to do just that, wait.

Yes, the 2023 Nissan Z has been postponed

Previously scheduled for sale in June, Japanese media reported last week that the new Z has been delayed until July, and Nissan declined to comment when asked. However, Nissan confirmed the delay on Monday, first in a statement in Japanese and later in an email.

"The 2023 Nissan Z will go on sale in the summer of 2022," a company spokesman said. “While we were talking about spring 2022, due to unforeseen supply chain issues that are affecting the entire industry, there has been a slight delay until summer 2022.”

It will be in July because the 2023 Nissan Z is coming very soon.

Summer, of course, runs from the end of June to the end of September, which gives Nissan a lot of leeway (and effectively disrupts the Nissan Club schedule for the season). The initial report of a July launch date now seems like the most optimistic and tentative scenario, contingent on Nissan having enough parts by then to deliver the Z.

Debut closer to rivals

It also brings the Z's launch closer to that of its archrival, which is expected to arrive as a 2023 model and debut this Thursday. It also leaves less time for the next generation Ford Mustang to launch, with an early hybrid powertrain and possible all-wheel drive.

Nissan Z with good features

Of these three, Nissan is likely to be in the middle price category. Performance is also likely to be somewhere in between, although it remains to be seen where it will end up in the Nismo trim, a company spokesperson has strongly hinted that such a trim is coming. He will likely be racing a GRMN Supra and what Shelby has in store for the new Mustang. The world may get weirder and the future less certain, but at least we know the next few years will be an exciting time to watch sports cars.
