Top Gear decided to test the Tesla Model 3 Performance with its combustion counterparts in the most powerful versions. Tesla has taken over the BMW M3, Mercedes AMG C63 S and Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio. It got exciting, especially when it took a quarter of a mile.

The duel of the giants began with a 1/2 mile test, that is, a distance twice as long as usual (1/4 mile). 1/2 mile is roughly 805 meters and, according to Top Gear racing, is the distance the Model 3's electric drive cannot handle the most powerful combustion vehicles.

Tesla, as usual, took off sensationally, but came in second. In the last meters, Mercedes caught up with her by a hair. BMW M3 and Alfa Romeo are left behind.

It got even more interesting on tight corners, where Tesla could shine thanks to independent drives on the front and rear axles, but in doing so it could lose about 200 kilograms of additional weight compared to its fuel-powered competitors.

The fastest Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio completed the test stage in 1: 04,84 (1 minute 4,84 seconds). The Tesla Model 3 was less capable of tight turns, but on straight sections it rushed forward. As a result, the car covered the distance in 1: 04,28 seconds, i.e. faster than Alfa Romeo.

The difference was small (0,9 percent), but the Top Gear pilot concluded that this was a turning point [in automotive history]. It's hard not to agree.
