Grille test: Seat Leon X-Perience 2.0 TDI (135 kW) DSG 4WD

What needs to be done to get a fresh and interesting model for buyers is clear: you take a family mobile home, add four-wheel drive, increased abdominal headroom and a little trim and belly protection designed to enhance its appearance. Even more powerful engines need to be put into the cauldron and seasoned with sharper equipment. At Leon X-Perience, Seat's chefs followed the recipe very closely. They took the Leon ST station wagon as a basis, added four-wheel drive to it, raised its belly 27 millimeters above the ground, added a little trim and protection to it. Throw in an interesting brown and a bit of powder and the Leon X-Perience test looks just off-road.

This time we did not torture him on the roads, but not for this, but when we drove the first kilometers at the presentation, there was still a field section, which I would have sworn to beat at first sight. Leon and he was beaten hard - he went through all these deep holes and bouncing without difficulty. Under the hood of the test, Leon (of course) hid the most powerful diesel on offer: a 184-horsepower version of the two-liter four-cylinder engine. It lacks power and torque, it could only be quieter. However, since this is a Seat and not a higher-brand vehicle across the group, it's clear that the Leon hasn't received full quality insulation. However, it is enough that it is not louder than one would expect in this class. Consumption? All-wheel drive and performance are excellent. On our standard XNUMX-mile lap, the Leon X-Perience was satisfied with a round five litres, the test consumption was a little more than satisfactory at just under seven.

All-wheel drive is, of course, the latest generation of the Group's classic cars, designed for vehicles with a transverse engine. This means that a fifth-generation Haldex clutch mounted at the rear, which is controlled by a computer using oil, more or less compresses the lamellas inside itself and thus distributes the torque between the front and rear wheels. The fifth generation is 1,4 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, and the Leon X-Perience, of course, mainly drives the front wheels. Together with a computer-simulated (with the help of brakes) differential lock and a driver who is not afraid of the first slip, the system is quite effective even on clean road tires: on slippery surfaces (for example, on sand) you only need to press the gas and leave the electronics to do your business. After a few spins of the wheels in the blank (sometimes one, sometimes the other, sometimes for a moment all at once), the Leon X-Perience will pull itself out of trouble. Almost always. The X-Perience equipment is very similar to the classic Leon Style equipment, so it is rich, and the test equipment was also richly equipped with equipment from the additional list.

For 37k you get just about everything - great full LED headlights with automatic high beams and taillights via navigation system, heated leather/alcantara combination sport seats, lane departure warning system, active cruise control (and speed limiter)), automatic emergency braking ... The list of equipment is really complete, from which the feeling behind the wheel is much more pleasant. This is helped by good seats and good ergonomics in general, as well as a dual-clutch DSG transmission that looks like a sheet metal painted car. You can also choose between a sporty, comfortable and economical driving profile, which means different settings for the engine electronics, steering wheel, active cruise control and accelerator pedal.

Since the Leon X-Perience is further from the classic station wagon, the suspension and damping settings are also different, slightly tighter. Therefore, at low speeds on steep irregularities, it may happen that passengers will be made a few more jerks, but the movement of the body in turns, as well as on a more furrowed road, copes very well. higher speeds. Seat engineers found a good compromise on the chassis. In fact, this is true of the Leon X-Perience in general: it's not overly off-road (neither in appearance nor in feel), it's just big, richly equipped, and reasonably affordable. For those who would like it for less money, it will (and will) be available with weaker engines, manual transmission and front-wheel drive only, and you can equip it with even fewer accessories. But then there will be no such Nadleon.
