Test: Triumph Tiger 800

The Triumph Tiger 800 is now one of the most popular motorcycles around. With him, they decided to go to the cabbage field to the "Bavarians" and collect some food.

It's so obvious that BMW deserves a round of applause for this idea, as their R 1200 GS or even F 800 GS is an object of desire and a model in the automotive industry's design studios. Triumph also deserves congratulations for taking such a determined assault on what has reigned supreme in the big touring enduro class for three decades. But when I think about it better and wonder who would buy this bike, it's immediately clear to me that a BMW owner probably doesn't, as they rarely change. He loses the most here European (read: Italian), but above all Japanese competition, and if you see more and more of these Tigers, do not be surprised.

The bike is good, it might even be great. They are striking in their appearance, as it gives the impression of a reliable "macho" engine, demonstrates only the right iron (the frame is made entirely of steel pipes) and the almost complete absence of plastic, which should be liked by today's European motorcyclists. But what makes it really special and what I still can't stop thinking about today is that amazing three-cylinder engine s 799 'kubiki'.

This one is above the standards in every way. The first thing that is impressive is the sound, which at low revs was pleasantly quiet, harsh. However, when the twist of the wrist makes him stop at 9.300 rpmyou are out of words. You growl that growls, growls a venomous sporting sound that lifts your hair with excitement. But the biggest surprise is yet to come. His flexibility comparable to those on large touring bikes. Namely, at 50 km / h, you drive the Tiger well in sixth gear and don't even shift down one or two gears. However, when the road reopens, a single turn of the wrist is all it takes to accelerate the bike to 120 km / h in no time.

These speeds are also best suited for such an adventurer. Estimated fuel consumption per applied test 5,5 liter 100 km, with solid fuel tank (19) this means that you can drive at least 300 kilometers without stopping.

The frame and suspension are best for rural roads and curves. Otherwise the tiger reaches 200 km / h, but sitting right behind the wide enduro wheel, even if it has good protection adjustable plexiglass, at this speed it is not the pinnacle of pleasure on two wheels. Perhaps for those who like speeds over 200 km / h, the Daytona 675 is more suitable, which has almost the same three-cylinder engine.

The supermoto style turn-by-turn chase is much more colorful on his skin. Switching from tilt to tilt is simple, effortless, with geometry, driver position and suspension settings adjusted for comfort. I also associate this with a slight opening of the front wheel due to cornering, and this combination also makes a difference. front 19- and rear 17-inch tires... Well, you are very pleased to seduce on rubble and above pits, where it surprises with stability. Otherwise, simply a slightly lowered inverted fork in the crosspieces would have eliminated this and added a pinch of pepper to the handling.

But driving pleasure, a sporty 95-horsepower three-cylinder engine and an adventurous look aren't everything. The tiger is not a make-up artist at all. He is and also wants to be serious travel companion... Therefore, they equipped it with a comfortable two-stage seat, which height adjustable: at a height of 810 or 830 millimeters from the ground. However, for all of you with shorter legs, they've taken care of an even smaller seat for an additional fee, and is currently the most versatile motorcycle of its kind on the market. , just not ashamed; Together with Shpanik in Murska Sobota or Dzherman near Domzale, just make a check-up appointment and try to reach the ground with your fingers to relax.

The attention to the modern motorcyclist is reflected in the fact that it was installed standard 12-volt GPS socket, charge your phone or warm your clothes on cold days with the ignition.

They also took good care of the driver. built-in dashboard... In addition to the speedometer, there are two odometers, data on total mileage, current and average fuel consumption, current gear, average speed, range with remaining fuel in the 19-liter tank and hours, and graphically displays fuel level and coolant temperature. Sensors are only marginally missing to perfection. easier access to information, since it is necessary to press the buttons on the valve, i.e. lower the left side of the steering wheel and view the data. A much more appropriate solution would be a button on the steering wheel.

With accessories you will find many interesting things, including switchable ABS, Arrow sports exhaust, heated levers, tire pressure monitoring and of course travel bags and aluminum suitcases for long trips to more distant corners of the planet. The set is also getting richer and more popular. driver equipmentso you can also dress (at home) according to your Triumph.

Tiger 800 is a cheaper version, which, like the one we had in the test, starts from 9.390 XNUMX euro (with ABS costs € 9.900), besides the one that is designed for more wandering on asphalt, there is more XC implementation (XC) which looks even more adventurous but has wire-spoked wheels, raised fenders and long-travel suspension. Not to be overlooked is the two-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Fast-paced rides on winding roads, spiced with sporty chili in the engine, that's what the Tiger remembers. In addition to being a pleasant and high-quality product, the price is also appropriate.

Face to face - Matevzh Hribar

I wrote the same thing after the first kilometers I rode through Austria in early spring, and I will do it again: the little Tiger is a very good bike! I was particularly impressed with the three rollers in a row and their smooth responsiveness, and again I was concerned (and another fan who wanted to ride it) with a protruding passenger handle that could break a knee.
