Volkswagen ID.4 at a speed of 160 km / h should travel 170-200 km on battery - and in winter!

German channel Car Maniac tested the range of the VW ID.4 while driving at 160 km / h - the maximum for the rear-wheel drive version. It turned out that even in winter, on a single charge, the car should travel 170-200 kilometers, which is a really good result, given the shape of the car.

Volkswagen ID.4 - energy consumption and range in winter

The 160 km / h test was pretty short at less than 10 minutes and just over 22 kilometers, so let's take the numbers as a first approximation of what you can expect from a Volkswagen electric crossover. What can you expect? With the cruise control set to 160 km / h, the average speed was 147 km / h, the average consumption was over 36 kWh / 100 km:

However, the instantaneous energy consumption meter showed 41-45 kWh, so just in case Let's assume that the energy consumption should be between 36 and 43 kWh / 100 km..

Battery capacity VW ID.4 is 77 (82) kWh. We do not know if the instantaneous and average energy consumption indicated by the car is taken into account, for example, the heating of the cab or the cooling of the engine, so for the sake of safety, let's make one more assumption: suppose that of these 77 kWh we can only use 73 kWh to drive the car.

Motorway coverage VW ID.4

So, if we had a full battery and decided to discharge it to zero (100-> 0%), the actual range of the Volkswagen ID.4 RWD at 160 km / h should be between 170 and 200 kilometers.... All this at a temperature of 3,5 degrees Celsius. In summer, with temperatures around a dozen degrees Celsius, the vehicle's range should easily exceed 200 kilometers.

When driving in the 80-> 10 percent range, the aforementioned forks compress to about 120-140 kilometers. Let us emphasize that we are still talking about winter.

The values may not look overwhelming, but they are not that small: they should allow you to cover the Gdansk-Torun or Wroclaw-Katowice distances faster than the rules allow. Therefore, it will be enough for the driver to slow down a little in order to gain another 50-80 kilometers.

In conclusion, we add that the tested car was a Volkswagen ID.4 rear-wheel drive (RWD), that is, a version with a speed limiter of 160 km / h. The all-wheel drive version allows you to accelerate to 180 km / h.

Price VW ID.4 1st starts in Poland from 202 390 zł.
