Volvo XC60 T8 (2018) - TEST Volvo's most powerful hybrid ever

Advanced Car has tested the Volvo XC60 T8 (2018), the most powerful two-row SUV in Volvo's history. The XC60 T8 produces 400 horsepower and 640 Nm of torque.

XC60 T8: comfortable, too weak electric motor, expensive

The Volvo XC60 T8 (2018) is a plug-in hybrid equipped with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The four-cylinder turbocharged internal combustion engine has a displacement of 2 liters, 314 horsepower and drives the front axle. The electric motor, in turn, has a power of 86 hp. and drives the rear axle. It is powered by batteries with a capacity of 10,4 kWh.

Volvo says the batteries can be charged from a household outlet in 3,5 hours. The range of the electric motor is expected to reach 45 kilometers, but 86 horsepower - as British Autocar emphasizes - is too little power for a two-ton SUV to completely forget about the internal combustion engine.

For price, the Volvo XC60 T8 competes with the Porsche Macan Turbo and Jaguar F-Pace. It turns out to be heavier (2,115 tons), less maneuverable (5,3 seconds to 100 km / h) and also consumes fuel during normal driving. No wonder: the optional engine and battery modules add to the weight of the vehicle.

A few weeks ago, there was news in the media that after 2019, Volvo will not sell internal combustion vehicles. However, it is now clear to the company: after 2019, Volvo does not want to produce cars that will only be powered by an internal combustion engine. All cars of the concern must be hybrids or electric vehicles.
