Replacing ball joints on your own with a VAZ 2107-2105

Usually, if you bought a new VAZ 2107, then usually, even after 50 km, the native ball joints are still quite tolerable and can walk several thousand. But if, during operation, especially on a dirt road, tapping is heard from the side of the front wheels, then most likely the point is precisely in the supports and they will need to be replaced with new ones. Since the procedure for replacing these parts is completely the same on a VAZ 000 and 2107 car, I will show the implementation of this procedure using the example of the seven.

So, in order to make repairs, we need the following list of tools:

  1. Open-end or box spanner 13
  2. Socket for 13 with cranks and ratchet
  3. Box spanner 22
  4. Hammer
  5. Pry bar

First, I would like to demonstrate the implementation of this repair using a video example, which I did not so long ago especially for this article. In the video below, the video will be in an accessible language and clearly shows the whole process of replacing ball valves on VAZ 2107 cars:

Now I will describe in more detail the order of the work. First, you need to jack up the front of the car, on the side where you plan to perform the replacement.

Then we carefully apply a penetrating lubricant to all threaded connections:

After that, we take the key for 22 and unscrew the lower nut of the ball pin of the upper support:

But you should not turn it to the bottom, since then it will rest against it with a pry bar in order to squeeze the finger out of the seat:

It is necessary to press with considerable effort, you can even jerkily, leaning on the mount with your own weight, and then the support will come out of the pivot arm.

After you have dealt with it, you can start attaching the support body, and unscrew the three nuts with a 13 wrench, as clearly shown in the photo below:

Now, without any problems, we take out the support VAZ 2107-2105, since nothing else holds it and the hub with the brake discs is released from above:

The ball is removed with a simple hand effort, of course, having previously unscrewed the bottom nut for securing her finger to the end:

Then you can start replacing the lower support, and this operation takes place in a similar order. Only there it is not very convenient to knock it down with a tire iron. And you will have to do this either by blowing a hammer on the pivot arm, or using a special puller. After that, you get the following result:

To perform the replacement, we buy new parts and install them in the reverse order. The price of ball bearings for the VAZ “classic” is about 250 rubles apiece!

    I want to clarify an important point. When installing new ball joints, you need to know exactly which one is upper and which is lower. If you confuse it, you can lose the wheel, since the upper ball on the VAZ 2101-2107 is not designed for heavy loads, when driving over bumps it can pull a finger out of the ball dry land. This is an important point. Many auto parts makers do not wrap themselves in the top and bottom ball markings, so you need to be aware of their visual differences.
