The electric car pumps out in cold weather (5-7 degrees Celsius). The weakest Mercedes EQC, the best Tesla

The Carwow channel decided to check out the real range of electric vehicles in late fall when temperatures are low. The experiment involved Tesla Model 3, Mercedes EQC, Audi e-tron, Nissan Leaf e +, Kia e-Niro and Jaguar I-Pace. To our surprise, the weakest driver was the Mercedes EQC, even the Audi e-tron performed better.

The electric car moves in autumn, with low temperatures, but good weather

All cars were driving together, tuned for the most economical driving option and temperatures up to 20 degrees Celsius. The outside temperature was 7 degrees Celsius at the beginning and about 4,5 degrees at the end of the test. On the fast lane, the electrician moved at speeds of up to 113 km / h on cruise control.

Electric vehicles tested by Carwow have batteries of such usable (and total) capacity that they belong to the following segments (classes) and should offer the same kilometers:

  • Tesla Model 3 with all-wheel drive – 74 kWh (80,5 kWh), section D, 499 km,
  • Mercedes EQC – 80 kWh, segment D-SUV, ~ 330-390 km,
  • Audi e-tron – 83,6 kWh (95 kWh), E-SUV segment, 329 km,
  • Nissan Leaf and + – ~ 58 kWh (62 kWh), segment C“ 346-364 km,
  • e-Niro – 64 kWh (68 kWh?), C-SUV segment, 385 km,
  • Jaguar I-Pace – 84,7 kWh, segment D-SUV, 377 km.

In the video at about 6:05 a.m. there was an interesting snapshot of all the cars in turn. It's hard to tell if all cars had the same recording devices (cameras / smartphones), but you can hear it in Tesla Model 3 is the loudest... The microphone picked up noises that sounded like the roof was amplifying them.

Test results: 6 / Mercedes, 5-> 3 / Audi, Nissan, Jaguar, 2 / Kia, 1 / Tesla.

Mercedes EQC was the worst... After passing 294,5 kilometer he had less than this 18 kilometers range, 5 percent battery, and the car is already showing the turtle icon. This gives a total range of 312 kilometers.

After about 316 kilometers they had to leave the expressway Nissan Leaf, Jaguar I-Pace i Audi e-tronthey have 3, 8 and 8 percent of the battery capacity left, respectively, which corresponds to 17,7, 30,6 and 32,2 kilometers of range. The remaining range of the Kia e-Niro was 106 kilometers!

In the sky e-Niro less than 84 kilometers away, he was already displaying the command to connect to the charger. Thus, up to this point, it has passed with almost equal success. 400 km!

After this 406 km w Tesla Model 3 2 percent battery capacity remaining. As a result, cars covered such distances on one charge:

  1. Tesla Model 3 – 434 kilometers,
  2. Kia e-Niro-410,4 km,
  3. Jaguar I-Pace – 359,4 km,
  4. Nissan Leaf and + – 335,1 km.
  5. Audi e-tron – 331,5 km,
  6. Mercedes EQC - 312,2 km,

However, please note that the last kilometers have already passed a little by force, at low speeds. Cars stopped faster when driving on the highway. On the other hand: at higher temperatures or slower driving, cars would go further, but Carwow clearly wanted to mimic normal driving..

If the battery runs out unexpectedly, owners will be in a worse position. Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC because these models couldn't be pushed to the charging point... Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf e +, Kia e-Niro, and Jaguar I-Pace all allowed this method, although the I-Pace proved to be heavy.

It's really worth watching and clicking on 1-2 ads because Carwow's channel did a great job:
